Putting the gear sensor on BBS02 higher up towards the tube.

So as you can see from my pictures the gear sensor gets kind of stretched when I put it all the way back on my fatbike, towards the sprocket/cassette.

So could I just as well put it on the gear cable but a lot higher up?

I am thinking under the upper bike tube, as I am proposing on the second picture below.

Would this have any disadvantages or would it work just as well? Do these sensors HAVE to be very close to the rear derailleur to work as they should or something like that? Or would it work just as well if I put it higher up.

Thanks

I've seen people putting it just outside the shifter. It just check if the cable is moving, and cable is moving the same all along (unless it's 10 meters?) so it shouldn't matter at all.

What matters is is should be 'squeezed' between the cable housing, so it doesn't move back and forth with the cable.
