Sounds interesting Ron. Auto salvage yard alternators come in many sizes and are cheap. I was just recently thinking that it would be good to have two bikes instead of just one. This might be a fun project to try !

Very good source of information - the permanent magnet version is interesting (no brushes to wear out) but being able to vary the KV is very interesting.

I know someone with a wall of old alternators, there has to be at least one that is suitable!
