Its been a while since I built a high powered bike. I'm going to be using this thread to document my progress as things come together. Here is a list of all the components I'm planning to use:
I will add/update this list as things come in or change. I'm toying with the idea of buying a used android phone for ~$50 and building a small box to mount it near my handle bars. The purpose would be to monitor the Sabvoton controller / motor temps as well as the bluetooth BMS. I'll start adding pictures to this thread when more components arrive. Ignore the frame in the background of some pics, it's the old EEB clone that I'm stealing a few old parts from.
- Vector Typhoon Frame - I have tried the EEB clone frame and it worked well, but some design problems worried me. The EEB clone I received had tack welds in places that should have been connected with final welds. The battery compartment had a giant lip surrounding the perimeter which made working inside quite difficult. The swing arm forks were never centered correctly and the bearings were cheap crap. I've done some research on the Vector Typhoon and they claim to have improved on all these issues. Time will tell.
- QS 205 V3TI 3T laced into 17" rim - Low turn count motor in a small diameter wheel should be good for my needs
- Hub Sinks and FF for the summer time
- 17" front wheel
- Shinko SR241 tires for front and rear
- Sabvoton 72200 - Using this until the Nucular controller comes in. The plan is to limit it to 150 amps even though its the 200a model. I've learned to give these kinds of devices a lot of headroom if you don't want to replace them twice a year
- Nucular 24F w/ Display - I got myself on the waitlist back in November and was told it could take 5-6 months
- 20S15P 3.2kwh battery w/ Bluetooth - Bought this from Vector. Its heavy and weighs about 38 lbs. It should be able to supply 150a and peak at 200a
- DNM USD-8 fork from my first build. It's gotten some light use but hasn't been abused and still holds air very well
- DNM 750lb rear shock. 230mm eye to eye, 65mm of travel. Also taken from my first build. Seems a little squishy so this may be replaced in the future
- Magura Throttle w/ 0-5k ohm pot- I've heard these are waterproofed pretty well and have good feedback. I've used the cheapo $15 throttles and they just have bad actuation and fail randomly. It is not fun to have a throttle get stuck at WOT or stop functioning while you're in traffic. Both of these experiences have made me reconsider the quality of the part I choose to control my power delivery.
- Magura ROTOR MDR-P 203 MM for the front brake
- Magura MT5 for the front
- Shimano hydraulic for the rear- This is borrowed from my first build. I may upgrade to the MT5 rotor and brake in the future
- 12v step down for lights and accessories
- 200a contactor - Not sure if I'm going to use a contactor or an ANL 250a fuse. I need to figure out a precharge setup for connecting/disconnecting the battery
