It doesn't use a hub motor, but uses a motor to drive the front crank and enables you to shift the rear deraileur for different gear ratios for climbing hills.

One drawback I can see with this is that whenever there is power supplied the motor, your chain is moving, whereas a hub motor, your chain is not moving. This could be deadly when you get your pants caught in the chain.
 
I'm pretty sure that's a Cyclone kit. If you search for it on this site you will find lots of info.
I never read an concerns about getting sucked into the chain by your pant leg. I guess it would
depend on your pants though.
 
I'd probably go direct to Cyclone-TW http://cyclone-tw.com/order.htm and use the $180 saved towards some good batteries. Or upgrade to the 650w and still save a bunch. These can be a bit tricky to fit so make sure you have enough room before you buy.
 
yeah, they do look like cyclone kits. Wow. they even have 1000w kits :shock:

anyone have any experience with those?
 
yeah cyclone.... if anyone buys one of these let me know how it fairs,. might be interested in getting a few for the shop..
