I am just wondering what fires esc's? and why do people have pedal before starting an rc motor? what if I had a motor I ran at 2kw do I have to pedal first even if I use A esc rated at 3x the amps?
thank,

A sensorless controller begins by firing a coil & reading the back emf produced in the other 2 phases. Once it gets a pulse, it will begin to determine a direction & begin firing in the correct order.
Some controllers have a much better comparitor algarythym to maintain sycronanzation.

it is also very dependant on your gearing. I have a bmx with a low range that lets me launch from a dead stop without issue. (CC ice100/CCice160)
My higher geared racing set ups do perfer a reasonable push-off to get rolling.
hope that makes sence.

so its all in the gearing then so going overkill with the esc for a tiny motor will not help?
