Wildlife Sightings

I've seen my share of deer, foxes, and even smelled a skunk once.

The worst wildlife I have to deal with is the obese unemployed human sort though. Ride the multiuse path home on a hot day, and somehow every 400+ person is there in less clothing than I'd prefer, and walking 3-4 across, blocking the whole path.

I really wish the path didn't go by those lakes...the good wildlife scenery is outnumbered by the bad on your average day.

Today I saw a bunch of turkeys right off the road. I spooked them pretty good. :) Potato gun turkey hunting out of a pickup last summer was a fail.. But coon clubbin this summer will be epic!! :D

The scariest thing ever is when a pheasant flies right in front of you when you're flying though a path offroad... It happened to me last year and I hope it never does again, unless I have a gun in my hands! :)

Out in the country all I see is corn, beans, and cows, which is really relaxing and peaceful! One guy has a TON of cattle about 4 miles north of town, it's pretty cool. Little known fact there are about 4.5 head of cattle for every person in South Dakota! :D :D

...Saw a Bunyip feasting on roadkill Possum on the side of the road. It bolted right infront of my bike as I hurtled down a bush road. I clipped it's rear end on the way past. So rare.

I collected an Emu riding my mountain bike in Western Australia. Pack of 6 ran out from the bushes.... I came off second best.

Metallover, wild turkeys and paintball guns is awesome good fun!..

I worked at a place where there was a couple large flocks of turkeys (50-ish total by my guess) that'd come through on a regular basis so we ended up getting paintball guns. They're so stupid that they'd run into the fence and then run along it, often back and forth, long enough that we could shoot them half a dozen times before they'd jump over and start flying away.

IMO, turkeys don't really count unless you see more than a dozen or if the only turkey you've ever seen was frozen. :p

Haha you got me with the Bunyip. thought WTF is that? typed it into google images, lol. With Bandicoots, Platypuses and Potoroos, a Bunyip seemed a perfectly plausible name for an aussie animal :D

Ive never hit anything head on but Ive had squirrels out here place bets to see if they could run through the spokes in my wheel.. He lost... I had flies following me for days...

I had one play chicken. He almost lost.

There was one time I decided to ride a trail out here a dawn. There was so much eye shine in the woods I never rode it again at night. At dusk on the same trail we have rabbits that spaz out and cross the path. Also deer come out around dusk.

Rode up a rise (on the tandem with my wife) to come head to head with a bobcat crossing the road right in front of us. Passed each other less than 3 feet apart.

We also get elk coming down the river into town. It's always interesting to see them in the fall.

Sounds about right for Perth. I expect Metallover would use the "n" word for them, just as racist. Rednecks all over the world.

Theres a hawk in our neighborhood who has knocked down a few peds. I guess the sidewalk was too close to her nest for her comfort or something. Knock-on-wood hasn't attacked anybody on a bike yet..
