After I ended up cracking a chain stay on my fat bike build, I decided I needed some suspension for the singletrack around here. I was really hoping the fat bike would be a cool winter snow trail cruiser, but it just didnt work out. We didnt get much snow, and I dont really like the cold. I had this built up Trek Mamba lying around from a BBS-02 build, and I loved that build. I love it more with a Tangent Ascent.

One of the things I love that I didn't mention in the video is that the bike weighs about 45 lbs with battery, and with a dropper seat, I can pop the seat up and pedal it no problem if I need a bit of stealth.

Anyway, Here's a walk-around video I did of the new build

I also got it out yesterday to shred some local trails. Its starts out slow and gets more intense. I need a good 5 minutes to warm up usually.

I've thought about it, and I might still grab a full suspension to throw the Tangent on. I had this bike available so I put it on. I'm pretty happy with it, for trails like this it's perfect, but there's way more technical areas in the Northeast.

Nice build and detailed walk around video. Ride was great, i like those trails seem similar to mine

Thanks guys. It's quicker than it looks. Before YouTube destroyed my video quality you could read speed and watts off the CA. I had strava turned on during a part of the ride that wasn't on video. I was on the west side.of this trail area checking my phone for directions, and when I got home I had cracked someone's KOM'S, and broke into the top 10 list for every section. :) I did the right thing and changed the ride to an ebike ride in strava so everyone got their records back.

Hardtail really only suck when you're sitting and pedaling. If you're standing up your legs act like rear suspension and it's not so bad.

nice build!

how's the wolftooth 42t holding up?

i'm planning on installing an extender cog on my bbs02 for extra climbing ability

Quite good, I ran this same cassette on this bike with a BBS-02. Some of the cheaper extender cogs will fold under high power, but this one takes it like a champ. The hill I climb around 5:15 was as steep as a flight of stairs and it powered right up it in 1st gear. I recommend a 34 or 32 chain ring with a BBS02. Also get the goat link if you have a Shimano derailleur.

Why get one cog when you can get a whole cassette!

Been running mine (11-40) for two months now and love it!

I think they can take bbs02 or maybe bbshd, but any more than that and they break. Check this out

I think I got the video encoding down high enough that even YouTube couldn't completely destroy my video. This one seems clear enough to read speed and Watts.

I sure hope not since I'm running it with a tangent (20:1) on my Tracer. In the last three weeks I've dumped over 250 commuting miles on it not including the weekend shredding...

Edit: I'll also add that I live in an extremely hilly area which quite a few of my crazier ascents require the 40t

Edit 2: Just remembered, I've been practicing wheelies in my granny gear going slightly uphill...

Oh you should be fine. The 20:1 has half the torque of the 40:1. I'm also 225 lbs, but the guy in the article is about 160. I don't wanna take any chances and the wolf tooth 42t is pretty tough

Pages and pages in ES search for "Tangent Ascent"... going back years and mostly about their mid-drive motor? Anyway... first thread found where it seems they're now selling the whole cake (bike included). So, without further ado, seems they've been noticed on site "Electric Bike Blog":
"Tangent Ascent : Welcome To The World Of Impossibly Light Electric Motocross"

Cool! Looks like should get one disabled old urban guy to the beer store faster!

ACK! Beat me to it. Was just about to edit/correct! ... and add from that article:

"This is not your daddy’s ebike."

LOL

They're not that hard to build up. It took me a little over an hour to put together on the trail bike.
