Reported at Reuters today: Federal government approves second SolarReserve solar power plant

I am just a little curious why this plant is located in Tonopah. Ever been to Tonopah? It just seems a bit off the beaten track between Reno-Carson and Las Vegas. I suppose it makes sense to put a plant there if the Grid is upgraded to support more endeavors in the heart of old gold & silver country. Perhaps that is part of The Plan, to put enough generating capacity in the middle of need to foster DC transmission improvements between Reno-Tahoe, Las Vegas, Bay Area, the entire Central Valley, LA-San Diego, Provo-Salt Lake, even Boise, and Phoenix. It’s a vast stretch of land waiting for the next boom to happen. With the Map below, each ring is ~100 miles.

Interesting... KF

Cheap land with few other uses in the forseeable future. Might be cheaper to build transmission line than buy land. Maybe they can just borrow blm land out in the sticks. Less smog to clean off the collectors. Less cloudy days.
