Hi Lebowski,
Great to see V2.7 out. Just wondering if it's possible to get live data out of the controller? And if so, what parameters?
Additionally, myself and my brother will be in Switzerland in December and would love to meet you if you're around.
Cheers,
James
My team unfortunately isn't able to compete in the Shell Eco-marathon as we're not an education institution but as of last week we managed to achieve 4.4 wH/km doing 45 kph (29 mph) and still have a few more improvements to come.

I don't think we're going to be able to get down to...
That's amazing!! I thought I was doing well with 5wH/km :/
Shame about the lack of documentation although I understand why they wouldn't want to share all their secrets, there is a lot of money involved in eeking out the last few wH/km of efficiency.
There is quite a lot of info available in...
Update:
Well we've now had the motor on the car for the last month or so and it's performed pretty well in the tests we've conducted. It does get rather hot under acceleration but we have a computer fan sitting behind the motor bracket I constructed that cools the motor.
Unfortunately we...
Hi Hyperion,
Sorry for the very late response, I've been rather busy lately.
In my experience, due to the Prius being an automatic, when you're slowly decelerating in the Prius on the highway you are still actually consuming fuel unless you put it into engine braking mode. I.e. if the energy...
Had a quick read of the Lightcycle Thread and I agree with the belt slip issue.
One of the biggest problems is getting the right reduction for the track.
In 2013, we had a DC motor with a fixed reduction (i forget what it was but it got up to 40 kph on the flat....). That got us 2nd or 3rd...
Hi SaladFish,
We've competed in this competition for the past 3 years flying all the way over from Western Australia. Last year we came 3rd in the race and set the Pole Lap.
Check out our bike build on Facebook if you like. We won't be competing this year so happy to help you.
It's a hard...
Hi Lebowski,
Majorly impressed by your controller! Only wish I'd known about it a few months ago when I was in Switzerland (I'm live in Perth, Western Australia). Just wondering what components I would have to change in order for your controller to work at 30V min, 55V max as I see you are...
We (Coulomb Motorsport) have been using a Castle Creations HVF160 on our competitive E-Bike since early 2015 and on our electric efficiency car since October 2014. We first obtained the HVF160 in mid 2014 and have been working ever since to try and decode the Castle Link Live Protocol (which is...
Drewjet, I've had a watch of some of your electrathon videos. Very cool!
I'm seriously considering building a Lebowski V2 controller without the hall sensors or putting some sensors in and running it sensored so I no longer have to worry about the start up. Going to do another efficiency test...
@Miles, thank you so much for the effort you've put into that motor comparison. Fantastic to see the different options. Really appreciate it!
@Drewjet, we've always run our motors sensorless as we use sensorless controllers. To help initially we usually push off on the e-Bike which is fine as...
Yeah that's the goal.
I was using the motor efficiency calculator here http://www.bavaria-direct.co.za/constants/ (bottom of that page) with the most accurate values I could find about different motors to determine the efficiency.
Our Cd is about 0.24 and FrontalA is 0.35 m2. At 40 kph, our...
Hi Miles,
Our electric efficiency vehicle uses around 900Watts to accelerate it to it's cruising speed of 40-45 kph, once there it really only consumes a few amps. The decision to go for the 90 kV 9225 are as follows;
- We have a fixed battery voltage (10S LiPo) so lower kV means lower gearing...
