    MAC motor suddenly stopped working

Sorry for the late reply, I thought this thread was dead by now. For me, lots of heat enabled me to melt the epoxy and get the PCB off. A regular hair fan did provide enough heat, but only after modifying the "nozzle" with tape to concentrate the air flow. This however resulted in overheating my...

    MAC motor suddenly stopped working

It's alive again! I feel really stupid now that I figured out the real problem. I did manage to solder the new halls onto the old board after removing the epoxy with a hairdryer (putting tape on the opening, concentrating the heat), but the problem with the dead hall persisted. Checking the...

    MAC motor suddenly stopped working

I have now opened the motor and removed the old PCB and hall sensors (i had to wait for a gear cassette removal tool, hence the long wait). I did this without removing the yoke from the stator, as I couldn't get it off. I had ordered a bunch of Honeywell SS41 hall sensors, which I glued onto the...

    MAC motor suddenly stopped working

I would, if I had the damn sensor. So it seems I have to wait anyway.

    MAC motor suddenly stopped working

I have talked with Paul, and he will send me replacement hall and PCB for free. I'll post further updates as soon as the package arrives.

    MAC motor suddenly stopped working

Thanks for the advice! I'll make a thorough documentation with lots of pictures, and if they turn out to be useful I'll post them here.

    MAC motor suddenly stopped working

I don't think so. I wasn't driving very aggressively, and the motor didn't fail while driving. I've emailed Paul about my problem, and that it's likely a failed hall sensor. Waiting to see what he says.

    MAC motor suddenly stopped working

Thanks for the helo with diagnosing my MAC. There seems to be an issue with one of the halls. When measuring the voltage over the blue and black wires, the voltage is constant at 5V, while measuring over the other hall sensors produces an alternating voltage between 0 and 5V, as expected. Now...

    MAC motor suddenly stopped working

I checked all the connectors, and they seem fine. When checking the halls, I know I have to apply a voltage of at least 5V over the red and black wires, and check for a voltage change on the other wires. But over which other cable do I measure the voltage? The red or the black? I also noticed...

    MAC motor suddenly stopped working

The gears are fine, I opened the motor and checked. I also don't think the clutch is broken, as the freewheel works fine. Or could the clutch be broken without affecting the freewheel?

    MAC motor suddenly stopped working

I have been using my MAC 8T with cellmans 48V A123 battery and the 9 fet 3077 controller on my folding bike for two months without problems. However, it just stopped working today when I was going home from work. When I twist the throttle now, it makes a strange sound, see the video below...

    Dahon electric folding bike

Thanks! The rear dropouts on the Dahons have an inner spacing of 133 mm, and the Mac requires 135 mm. So I had to bend the dropouts a bit to fit the Mac, but this was really no problem. I also rasped the dropouts to maka a better fit for the Mac motor with larger diameter than a regular bike...

    Dahon electric folding bike

This is my first electric bike. I wanted a portable bike that would fit in the trunk of a car as well as in trains, so it had to be a folding bike. After looking for good deals, I finally went for a Dahon Cru D7 (http://www.onbikex.de/Fahrrad/Faltrad-Dahon-Cru_D7_20-29789.html) because of its...

    Dahon Speed D7

RVD, could you reuse your existing 7 gear cassette on the motor, or did you buy a new one?
