    Cycle Analyst fine tuning

Got it, thanks. I set the RShunt value to 3.5 and now the CA shows a bit under 20 amps when accelerating from a stop. You're right: the max amount was around 30 amps. I rode 18 miles worth of serious hills during last night's commute home and averaged 15 wh/mile, but that was with pedaling very...

    Cycle Analyst fine tuning

O.k., thanks. Seems to me that every current reading is predicated by the Rshunt setting. I don't know if the Rshunt is set correctly, since I have no other method for measuring how much current is drawn at full throttle from a stand still. I assume that a 20 amp controller should draw 20 amps...

    Cycle Analyst fine tuning

I would even pay someone to explain how this thing works at this point. I'm impressed with the product and what the manufacturer claims it does, but I'm unimpressed with how the manual's author assumes the reader has an extensive background in electronics. Justin has a great product; he failed...

    Cycle Analyst fine tuning

I'm having a hell of a time interpreting how the advanced settings work. I really wish this manual gave some examples of how doing X,Y, and Z will give you such-and-such kind of outcome. I'm assuming that a very simple way to extend the range I can ride is by reducing the Max Throttle setting...

    How do controllers work?

I would love it if you dumbed down the Cycle Analyst manual for the lay person. Every time I try to mess with the advanced/limiting settings and read the manual to try to figure it out, my eyes glaze over. The manual needs examples of what happens if you do this and this and this...or a metaphor...

TYRES !!! ~ Which do you use ?

Schwalbe Marathon Plus. I've had great luck with these and am on my third set. Just be prepared for a battle putting them on your rim; they're stiff as hell and you'll probably bend or break a few tire irons (the plastic ones at least).

    Cycle Analyst won't turn on

The red wire actually went next to the other red wire in the upper right corner. All else was working just fine and the CA fired up as soon as I turned the system on. Thanks so much for your help, Mike. Everything's working as it should now...

    Cycle Analyst won't turn on

I did some surgery on my Infineon and found the problem: a red wire was never soldered to the board. The problem is that all the pics I found on ES regarding the interior of this controller (or similar ones) don't match mine. I am labeling where every wire goes, and where I am assuming the lose...

    Cycle Analyst won't turn on

Thanks for the info. The waiting part I can do. But, I'm a real novice when it comes to electronics. How do I 'short out' the input connectors? Shorting out a battery implies that the pos and neg touch, so I assume I touch the black and red power ends of the controller somehow. I found the...

Note to self: now do a search for "discharging a controller".

    Cycle Analyst won't turn on

I just got my CA in the mail, tried plugging it into the controller (Infineon 36-48v, 20 amp), and nothing happens. The CA won't turn on and the throttle does nothing. I unplug the CA, everything works as usual. The only thing I can think of which may be affecting things is that I don't have...

    Using discharge wires for charging

That's a good idea, but I already ordered and received my black/red Andersons. Note to self: ask questions on ES BEFORE ordering any parts on the internet.

    Using discharge wires for charging

O.k., thanks for the clarification. I'll just put Andersons on both sets of wires.

    Using discharge wires for charging

I have a 36v LiMnNiCo e-bike battery. Even though it has separate charge and discharge wires, both having different kinds of connectors, can I charge the battery using the discharge wires? I'm trying to standardize/simplify all my charger and battery connectors with Andersons.

    My Kona Smoke 29'er

Those tires look great, as does the entire bike. When my pair of Marathon Plus wear out (I've got at least 2,000 miles on them currently without any flats), I'll try a pair of those 700x50 Supremes. Not sure if they would fit in my frame, though. About upright bike vs. recumbent visibility...
