Why are more of you DIYers not in the e-bike business?

Thanks for that kind advice, rumme. But I honestly did not come here to promote my business.

Thanks for all the input from you wonderful folks on Endless Sphere including you, rumme. Great work is done here. But I can't afford anymore time for this. Gotta get back to real work. Meanwhile, if anybody really wants to check out my bikes, they can do so by Google searching Long Beach...

rumme regarding your comment: " I don't even like the way your ebike looks. Its kinda " girly" looking in my eyes and as a 240 lb man , I would feel silly riding it. You may know a lot about building e-bikes, but you obviously have no understanding of the market outside of DIYers. In the...

Why are more of you DIYers not in the e-bike business?

If anyone really wants to make informed decisions about my bikes, they should inform themselves by google searching: Long Beach Electric Bikes instead of just talking off the top of their heads. rumme says he would not pay $300 for one of my bikes--a bike with a 36V/14Ah battery that retails for...

I don't understand: If you say there is no money in it, how is that your friends (ebikezzz) are able to maintain four stores, all in or near Los Angeles? I have visited all of their stores and they appear to be doing very well.

No problem marvak! The thread was dead anyhow because I have been barking at the wrong door. I should be talking to people who are actually e-bike dealers or seriously want to be. I say they should be building their own bikes--for many good reasons.

Why are more of you DIYers not in the e-bike business?

Marvak, please do some more research. If you can pedal, as you say, 25mph, it is likely that the 250W motor would not even be able to keep up with you, much less help you go any faster. If you want a motor that will drive you faster than you can pedal at 25mph, you need one hell of lot more...

If you check the original Chinese specs, you will find that it is not only the Chinese vendors who over exaggerate product performance. And it is more often the American vendors who import them.

Why are more of you DIYers not in the e-bike business?

If you are under the impression that if you are pedaling at your top speed of 20mph, and then by using a 250W motor you will get an additional 10mph, you need to do more research. There are people on here who are more qualified and more willing than I to explain the electronic/power...

Why are more of you DIYers not in the e-bike business?

Well, ya ain't gonna see 35mph on a 250W bike.

And why in the world would you go pedelec unless you are located in Europe or Asia where the law says for it to be classified as a bicycle, you MUST pedal. In the USA the law only says that you must be ABLE to pedal. Although some of those clowns like Bosch and the companies who use their drive...

I also have an Aprilia 125 gas scooter. More speed, longer range, but I spend more time on the electric. It is smaller and just more fun to ride. Since this photo was taken, I have added a wind screen and top box. Also, this Aprilia does not come with a side stand, so I added one--after market.

zackclark7, re: electric scooters: Although, I build and sell electric bikes, my personal ride is an electric scooter, even though I don't sell scooters. I had my guys remove the 48V/20Ah SLA battery and replace with two 60V lithiums. I run one dry. Raise the seat, unplug and plug in the...

Why are more of you DIYers not in the e-bike business?

I pay my two college kid assemblers $70.00 per bike. Either one can take a new standard bike (Micargi frames) fresh out of the box, and put it together as an electric (750W/36V/14Ah battery, thumb throttle) in about an hour and a half. Price for the bike: $1499.00. That's about half the price...

Why are more of you DIYers not in the e-bike business?

rumme, if you want to build an e-bike that will carry a 240lb guy at 30mph, that's OK for you, and I don't knock it accept that you are breaking the law. And hell, I don't care about that either. But: In selling to the general public, when someone asks me if I offer a 30mph bike, or want to...
