Building an electric racing motorbike from scratch

Ah, I see you're using the nickel tab with copper bus plates. I found the only way this works successfully is if you solder the nickel inserts in place, which is a lot of work for a DIYer. Also, unless there's some thin copper linking the cell to the plate [aka nickel-copper-sandwich(TM)] the...

So nickel all the way? Or any copper in the mix?

Building an electric racing motorbike from scratch

Nice work! Awesome to see some folks still keen on building race bikes here :) I too started with the motor and built the bike around it. Only way to go. Any details on the battery?

Should We Be Worried About EV Battery Life in the Long Run?

Most battery degradation will be evident in the first few years, and it tapers off after that. The main enemy of battery health is the unholy trifecta of heat, high states of charge and time.

    Captcha for this site wow..

@neptronix, we've had some similar trouble with the AEVA forums. We're seeing huge surges in traffic overwhelming the server, and because it's shared, they shut us down with a bit of a hair trigger thinking it's an attack. More likely, it's a swarm of AI bots feeding on all the delicious...

    jonescg's eCRX pre-build thread!

Being a front wheel drive, there's only a tunnel where the gear shift rods and exhaust went, but that's not the problem. The problem is the sway bar with it's raised bend (to clear the exhaust and gear shift rods) is just so damn close to the body I risk pinching the cables. I think having the...

    jonescg's eCRX pre-build thread!

I started to re-install the HVAC and associated wiring looms. Also started to work out where to run the various HV cables - looks like the only way I can get them into the engine bay is via the cabin - the sway bar is too close to the bottom of the chassis so I can't sneak it under. Probably not...

    jonescg's eCRX pre-build thread!

Starting to look like a car again! Mounting the 3 7 kW chargers will be a challenge - I've got the space, but I can't have the coolant inlet any higher than the radiator cap, lest it leaks out...

Hope to have most of the fixings and mounts in place by the end of the weekend.

Dozens of pallets of new LFP cells from ESS bankruptcy - SOLD

But in all seriousness, that's an absolutely outstanding deal for a DIY crowd like ES. I hope they find a good home promptly!

What unreasonable demands are the US making to 'resolve' tariffs for your country

Yeah, had massive insider trading pump and dump vibes.

Kelly Controls IGBT controllers 320 380v

I don't know anyone using them, but they've had some half-decent looking AC motor inverters on the market for a while now; at least 3 years. Hopefully by now they've ironed out any bugs. But at that price, it's hard to go wrong!

    jonescg's eCRX pre-build thread!

Quick update on the CRX project. I have taken delivery of the DC/DC converter and three 6.6 kW onboard chargers! Well, two, as I already had one. But these two have a CC/CP enabled so all I need to do is charge from a standard Type-2 EVSE and it will adjust the charging power accordingly by...

Some thoughts on the future of automotive EVs

There's still $3000 installs of 6.6 kW systems here in WA, but the average system is pretty big now. Finn has a good summary here - all prices in $AUD https://www.solarquotes.com.au/spottingadeal.html

Some thoughts on the future of automotive EVs

This is from a solar warehouse in Australia - the catalogue is a year old but the prices are in AUD and completely unsubsidised. They're no doubt cheaper now. Compare that to panel prices in the USA, it's clear there's a premium. Shop Solar Panels for Home | GoGreenSolar - I mean, US$300 for a...
