    1992 Kawasaki KLR250 Build Thread

No big updates but wanted to keep track of the thread. Using my free wrenching time lately to clean out the garage and get some of the other motorcycle and car projects out of the way, so the drivetrain has just been sitting on my bench ready to go. I still need to solve DC-DC and figure out...

    1992 Kawasaki KLR250 Build Thread

Updates: I have the Sevcon running the motor on the bench. The harness is mostly built. I forgot to put a circuit in for brake regen so I'll add that to the wiring diagram and perhaps put one more wire on a digital input for reversing which I can cap off until I decide to add a reverse switch...

Hybrid Motorcycle - Replace Stator with Brushless?

The original poster was mentioning a CBR125 which almost certainly uses a total loss system. So perhaps adding something to the drive chain would make the most sense, since a stator replacement would also need to replace the ignition system.

Hybrid Motorcycle - Replace Stator with Brushless?

How are you going to drive the CDI? It gets power for ignition pulses from the stator.

First EV build - inputs needed

Looks like an exciting little project. You might want to be set up so you can adjust the motor positioning quite a bit as it will make sprocket/gearing changes easier. Chains are more flexible for gearing changes as you can adjust the chain length.

First EV build - inputs needed

That math sounds accurate to me, but it's not my area of expertise. I suspect you're not going to get enough torque out of these motors to top out, so probably you should plan to gear them down with a belt or chain at something like 3:1. Then you will probably top out at 20 km/h but have...

First EV build - inputs needed

If all you are looking for is 2kW go for it. Worst you will do is quickly blow up a couple of motors, I suppose. You might want to work out the gear ratio to see if even that speed is likely without very strange overall external gearing.

First EV build - inputs needed

If you've been looking at the ME0907, or really if you want to go reasonable speeds, those will not be useful motors for this build. Sorry. If you want to start with something small that isn't a hubmotor consider something like the Motenergy ME0708. That will be more like $500, will work with a...

how to program a sevcon gen4

Does anyone have a copy of the hall sensor firmware? My Gen4 apparently has induction-only firmware installed. This is the one from Korea that other people have successfully had working with hall motors, so I know the hardware is capable. Sevcon has told me that they don't support individuals...

    Converting into electric motorcycle

70 MPH and 100 miles is an ambitious goal. You are probably going to need 15+kWh of battery to meet that. Making that out of 18650 cells will be thousands of connections and a huge battery pack. For comparison the Zero S 13.0 will do 81 miles at 70MPH. Perhaps you should consider less ambitious...

    1992 Kawasaki KLR250 Build Thread

If the transmission were not a stressed member I could see machining it away to use it as a motor mount. In this case since the engine is in decent shape I am planning to pull it and sell it to fund part of the conversion cost. The KLR250 is a pretty good engine but as with all dirt bikes they...

    1992 Kawasaki KLR250 Build Thread

At this point I'm set up with an IXXAT and DVTC and I have a sample DCF from John over at Motenergy. I'm getting ready to build out the motor/controller/battery setup on the bench to program and test. This is going to be a headache. It also seems pretty doable. Yep, you and I have come to the...

    1992 Kawasaki KLR250 Build Thread

Here is the original wiring diagram and my current modified wiring diagram. It does not yet include the Hall effect throttle I'm planning to use. Right now it is set up for a pot box.
