    Replacement Controller?

From a thechnical point of view, the closest thing to a ludicrous v2 is a VESC100/250, but you wont like the pricing and the lack of integration with bafang stuff :/

    Non-silicon and/or soft-switched controller topologies?

There are zero GaN gate drivers out there with desat detection or similar so I can't think of a way of protecting a GaN controller from a phase short for example. They are ok when the switching node doesn't leave the pcb like a dc/dc converter (I made a few), but I would never use GaN if the...

    True FOC: definition and examples

The dev branch has FW support, its being tested by a few users now. We tested at 150 FW Amps, and at 30A in an ebike setup, cant find anything wrong so far. MTPA needs to be disabled until we contribute a small fix.

10kW BLDC motor controller up to 90V and 200A with sensorless FOC - build thread

LM5163 and LM5164 are pretty similar, from what I can see its only different current ratings. Even the LM5017 looks similar to me, why do think its more robust? Yeah voltage ripple was higher than advertised and even made audible noises so it took me extra time to get it right. Had to use the...

10kW BLDC motor controller up to 90V and 200A with sensorless FOC - build thread

There is a detail in your power supplies that got my attention because I used the same part#. That series zener in series with the lm5164 input is something original, havent seen it before so I had to try it. It didnt work very well for me, but I experienced failures in that supply so it was...

    New ground-up ESC - MESC_FOC_ESC

From the pics I think my board has at least 1/2 the parasitic inductance and stiffer dc link. The low side shunt, wire bonding inside your fet, the caps arrangement, the stackup, they are all increasing your parasitic inductance. In my board miller is limiting both turn on and turn off swiching...

    New ground-up ESC - MESC_FOC_ESC

That one was at 100Amps I think. At 200A I start to see some artifacts despite the large Cgs=10nF Can't share the mosfet # or topology, but the typical doc package looks like this And tests with RgOFF:1.5ohm and RgOFF 3.3ohm at 200A. PS: I won't pretend to know why the waveforms look like...

    New ground-up ESC - MESC_FOC_ESC

External Cgs is a very strong tool against miller. I use it most of the time, and always place the footprint. Just keep in mind the extra avg current on the gate driver and that the cap tolerance is really bad compared to the typ 1% resistor.

    New ground-up ESC - MESC_FOC_ESC

Wires are okay, I regularly do 700A tests on 2.5mm² wires. Pulses are so short that there is no time to damage them. You might want to check your miller performance to see how badly Mr. Miller wants to turn ON your other mosfet. Here is an example of miller that i have on the bench right now...

10kW BLDC motor controller up to 90V and 200A with sensorless FOC - build thread

+1. And love the reference. I made the exact same choices on a quite similar motor drive I have on the bench now. :bigthumb:

    New ground-up ESC - MESC_FOC_ESC

Yes, don't trust too much a low end scope. This happened a few years ago, SiC powerstage. Cheap 100MHz owon scope: A Rhode&Schwarz scope: Both probes were measuring exactly the same place in exactly the same way with those small gnd springs. Now our team has a couple of even higher end 1GHz...

    New ground-up ESC - MESC_FOC_ESC

A switching trace at 4A is worthless, you want to find how bad your voltage overshoot is, and V=L*di/dt. If your "i" is like 2% of your worst case scenario, then your measured overshoot is likely in the 2% range of what you will really have down the road. That's why so much effort is spent...

VESC based +200A powerstage with 200V MOSFETs (videos of it in action)

Inductance measurement error is a known vesc issue on 3rd party hardware. I guess it works better the faster the powerstage switches, and at lower f_sw I get more accurate results. Shaman was also concerned about this, and many people would be interested on fixing this issue.

    Axiom: a 100kW+ motor controller

We also have been making derivative works out of axiom for customers. It's heritage is very valuable and has been put to good use on some cool applications, some requiring a bit extreme power density figures. Glad to see its serving you well!

    Axiom: a 100kW+ motor controller

One trick you can do is set the FOC frequency to a very low value, 5kHz for example. The lower you go the closer your measurement is to a vesc original hardware. Its still not ideal and it can be improved for sure, but it takes effort to develop a solution for that because its a hard problem...
