Is the lights supposed to stay on when the battery is connected, (motor off)?
My backlight is always on, I had the front connected for a while, however the tsdz2 could not sustain it.
Do have a look at the Hardware temperature control tsdz2-thread, as the various ways people mitigate heat from core to the surrounding casing helps immensely in regards of negating overheating.
Yeah, I thought it would be nice to have the original wiring as-is-intact for diagnostic purposes.

Been out with the rake this morn on the interwebs, however my searchfoo maybe isn't as strong it used to be, I could only find the already mentioned fleabay-source.
My money would be on the sprag clutch. You got some milage on it, so hopefully some grease could help quite a bit, but probably not the whole way.
