There is no doubt that the Nuvinci is less efficient in direct comparison. The interesting question is how much efficiency is gained by being in the correct gear with the motor spinning a peak performance and not loosing power as heat? I have just changed from an Alfine 8 IGH to a Nuvinci 360...

The 2 main issues I can see with the build will be belt alignment and the eccentric bottom bracket. The chain alignment is perfect with the Nuvinci and the standard Bafang chain rings both at 49mm but the Gates "chainring" will not be offset so it will be out of alignment hopefully the adapter...

Good luck with your install it is fairly easy but read the instructions carefully on the cable setup before you cut them to length. I got mine back to front and had to redo them luckily there was enough length to do so. Mine did not come with the outer cable sleave so you might have to get that...

The Alfine will do the job but you need to set up an electronic clutch, I used my throttle on my left hand and used the software to program it to just kill the power. There is less lag than using the bake cut off but there is still some. The other option is to just stop pedalling to change gear...

I did over 5000 km with the Alfine so it does the job, the 2 problems with it are that it will not gear change with even a moderate amount of power.It will just grind until the power cuts then slip into gear. Also I had it slip out of gear a few times and never trusted it to stand on the pedals...

They are not cheap but hey it's xmas, I picked one up of ebay for $299 from bikewagon. Trouble is you need new spokes a 20T sprocket and it all adds up. I am going to have a go at building my own wheel though it looks like so much fun :shock:

In case anyone else missed it EM3Eev now has a range of chain wheel sizes listed as spare parts 44T to 52T :D . Just ordered my Nuvinci so a 44T should go nicely with that :D

I have always had this issue, but I just spotted on the French forum that setting "speed limited by display command" is the culprit. I reset mine to 40kph and hey presto no more lag interesting my doesn't limit to 40kph either, no load in top gear is 58 kph. I'll have to try the PAS now and see...
