Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

Would you like to see the oldest operating wind turbine in the world? https://www.power-technology.com/features/oldest-operating-wind-turbine-tvindkraft/ It was built by a collective of citizens, lead by local school teachers who were fed up with energy shortages and high prices caused by the...

Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

Yes, it has been widely expected this will be required, or at least, beneficial. The wind doesn't always blow locally. Sunshine varies too. You can't argue this isn't cool: Construction of the London Array, 175 off-shore turbines. At the time it was the largest offshore wind farm in the...

Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

By Aussie standards they're practically my neighbours ;) My understanding is their research has been the groundwork for the larger ITER facility in France where there's the actual chance for a sustained reaction/useful power output.

    Fatal ebike crash trial

I imagine the difference would have been large: causing death by dangerously driving something defined as a motor vehicle is a well-defined offence that carries relatively stiff penalties, whereas there is often by such specific offence for bicycles and "dangerous cycling" penalties are...

Electric Racing Chainsaw Build, Help Please

Incremental prototypes would be a great way to get a feel for the technology and which direction to head in. Some 12S lipo packs, a big ~5kW RC motor and a sensorless controller on a smaller saw would be an easy way to dip a toe.

Trouble With the Car You're Still driving?

Yes, fuseboxes have traditionally been (and should be) readily accessible with no tools required. Anything else is lazy design.

Electric Racing Chainsaw Build, Help Please

If you think you can get away with not having to have controller and batteries mounted on the saw then it will make things much easier (if the rules get rewritten to accommodate electric saws I could see them stipulating everything has to be on the saw - no umbilicals). I'd go for a backpack...

How to disassemble motor adapter from sprocket/freewheel?

If the new freewheel is a different model to the old one then the thread type might be different, Unfortunately freewheels can have a number of similar, but incompatible threads: https://www.sheldonbrown.com/freewheels.html

    Fatal ebike crash trial

Yes, they can. A civil suits only needs to prove liability on the balance of probability (i.e. what is most likely) rather than beyond all reasonable doubt, as in a criminal case. The higher standard of proof in a criminal case reflects that the accused's freedom is at risk, not just their...

From that link: "In short, removing legal tender status means that some older bank notes will no longer have the official status of being approved for payments of debt. Essentially, that means you will no longer be able to spend that 1935 $25 bank note to buy items at a store. But these bank...

Electric Racing Chainsaw Build, Help Please

Rotors can be wrapped with carbon filament to help hold things together if things are that bad. Gearing is a contentious proposition. The "normal" problem with high-power, low weight motors is usually they spin too fast to be of practical use. Now here's an application that almost has the...

Electric Racing Chainsaw Build, Help Please

Battery can be backpack mounted if needed so isn't a constraint or a technical challenge. I think it's a given the system needs to match the two smoke saw's speeds. Electric motors can be over-revved. Iron losses will either become excessive or the rotor will fly apart, but this is drag racing...

Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

So potentially twice the efficiency of a normal coal fired power plant but likely to need the fuel gasifying first and the resulting CO2 sequestering. Sounds expensive. Might be useful as an alternative to gas turbine or piston engined peak shavers, backup or remote site power.

    Will this vehicle ever exist

Unfortunately, plugging into a domestic 110VAC outlet for 3 hours is barely worth the effort. You'll get maybe 5kWh of charge, which in a truck towing a big trailer might get you as little as an extra 10 miles of range.

1988 Honda Prelude conversion - fastest build log ever.

Sounds good to me! Range is comparable with an original Leaf (if not better) but over 250kg lighter. There's too many big, heavy expensive EVs about. Some smaller/lighter/cheaper options, like you've built, would suit many people.
