    Ping charger question

Hi all, Christened my new Ping pack this morning with a ride to work and have it on the charger. It is one of the 2A models. I am not sure when to stop it as it ran continuously for an hour but now is pulsing on and off. Should I leave it until it stops pulsing or wait till it stops? The...

    Ping 2.0 Reports

Sorry about the delay, off skiing in New Zealand for two weeks tomorrow so have been busy getting ready. My 48v 4ah ping pack weighed in at 2110g compared to my 44.4v 3.8ah lipo pack at 1010g. Pack is covered in blue heat shrink with the bms covered in yellow heat shrink. You can see a bit...

    Which Bafang to get?

Thanks Ben, 32 km/h sounds right. I tried out my new 48v 4ah Ping pack today on our local veledrome, it pushed me around at about 31 km/h with my current 36v direct drive brushless setup. I only did about 2 km but it showed no sign of fading. Battery was cool to the touch. Hoping that the...

    Which Bafang to get?

Ben, Could you explain how to interpret your tables, I am a bit confused. Do you have all the bafang variants or do they only make the 1 motor? I asked Keywin for a 36v motor for a 20" wheel, I plan on running a 48v V2 ping pack, any idea what I should expect? Derek

    Which Bafang to get?

I have taken the plunge, contacted Keywin Ge and ordered a 36v Bafang for a 20" wheel. Great guy to deal with, bought a hub, 2 sets (6) of spare planetary gears, ebrakes and a throttle. Delivered to Australia for the measly sum of $250 AUD!!! Will have to spoke the hub into a rim myself but...

Speed vs Efficency - something strange going on?

Hi John, The unloaded(wheel off the ground) speed is 34 km/h. Am starting to take the extra speed and power for granted and my daily power consumption is creeping up slightly as I am relying more on the motor to accelerate and climb. Derek

    Ping 2.0 Reports

My ping v2 with the 4ah cells has just been dropped off, will have in my sweaty palms tonight !! Will charge it up, weigh it and take some photos tonight. Its only a little 4ah 48v pack for my 12km ride, current draw for my ebike rarely gets above 8A so it should be fine for the 2C rating...

Speed vs Efficency - something strange going on?

Hi John, This is a pic of my ride. All up weight including rider is roughly 90 kg or 200 lbs. 70kg (me) + 18kg (bike and motor) + 1kg (44.4v 3800mah RC lipo) Docs say the motor is 200w 36v for a 26" wheel but mine is in a 20" wheel. Motor housing is shiny aluminum. Got it off ebay here...

Speed vs Efficency - something strange going on?

Hi John, I generally compensate for hills by pedaling to keep at maximum speed (speed on the flat). I figure the motor should be at peak efficiency this way and pulling the same current as on the flat, with my legs making up the difference. I am not sure if this would make a difference...

Full twist to 1/5 twist thumb hybrid throttle

Hi all, Bit of a mouthful but I thought I would share some pix of my throttle conversion. Very pleased with the results. I don't use it as a thumb throttle much, but I find the nylon zip tie knuckle a great guide and it fits under my finger joint nicely. I have since trimmed the tail off...

Speed vs Efficency - something strange going on?

My take home message from all this is get to full speed ASAP and ride full throttle, pedaling to stay at full speed up the hills. Doubt this model would work above 30 km/h where wind resistance would start to undo any gains. Derek

Speed vs Efficency - something strange going on?

Ran full throttle for the last 2 km this morning, 27-29km/h. Controller was barely warm and batteries were slightly warm, the controller and batteries were a lot warmer after the same run with the speed limiter on. Should the controller get warmer at lower throttle settings if you keep...

Speed vs Efficency - something strange going on?

Hi all, Trying to work out what is happening to my setup, up until recently I have been running with the speed limited to 22 km/h via a jumper on my controller but am now running unlimited at 30 km/h. Strange thing is that I do not seem to be going through significantly more battery capacity...

    Which Bafang to get?

I found this on ebay, price isn't too bad, I have asked if they do a 20" kit but I doubt it. If it is a Bafang I might go for it , rated at 24v or I might start with 29.6v and see how it goes before going up to 44.4v. Will drop Keywin an email and see what he can do. How much did the hub cost...

Speed limiter - trap for young players....me

Wired the multimeter in this morning and unloaded (wheel off the ground) it spins at 34 km/h at .96A. On the flat 30 km/h steady (no pedaling) it varied between 4-4.5 A, up a slight incline speed dropped to 27km/h and current went up to 6.5-7A. So at 44.4v nominal (I didn't measure the voltage...

    Which Bafang to get?

Hi Freddy, Those are amazing numbers, how did you go about getting your motor? Can you let me know how much I should expect to pay for one delivered to sunny Melbourne? Did you have any trouble fitting it to the rear? I read somewhere that they are a lot wider than normal, do you know what...

Speed limiter - trap for young players....me

Hi guys, That was 2A at 36v doing (speed limited) 20 km/h dead flat road, no wind with an all up weight (rider and bike) of 90 kg and tyres at 80 psi. I have since been using a 44.4 v lipo pack but until yesterday it was unbeknown to me speed limited. All that is about to change now I...

Speed limiter - trap for young players....me

The extra power was amazing, even more so given the 1kg 3800mah lipo pack I am using. I think I will be using a bit more capacity than I have been using so far to get to work. The 200w thing is a both a legal thing and a challenge. I am a big fan of getting more out of less especially in this...

Speed limiter - trap for young players....me

Hi all, Just thought I would share my embarrassment. I have only just go into e-biking having converted my 20" folder with a 36v brushless DD kit (wound for a 26" but spoked in a 20" rim and running a 44.4v 3800mah RC lipo pack) The controller that came with the kit has a speed limiter...

    Which Bafang to get?

I had a look at that table but couldn't work out the numbers, wasn't sure if they do different windings and gearing for each voltage/wheel size or its one size fits all. Trying to set up the perfect light weight commuter, I mainly ride on bike paths so any more than 25 km/h gets a bit hairy...

    Which Bafang to get?

Hi all, I want convert my 20" folder into an electric. Goal is at 25 km\h on the flat and I am using a 44v (lipo) pack but have a 48v Ping on the way. We have a crazy 200w limit here in OZ so I would like to stay as close as possible to that (I am reading it as 200w on the flat rather that the...

    Thumb vs Twist grip throttles?

Mmmm, will have to look into one of those, my controller has a separate on/off wire but I bypassed it. Probably a good idea to wire in a switch now that I am using it regularly. Will have a look through that post now. Rode in with the throttle on the LH this morning, it felt a lot better...

    Ping 2.0 Reports

Hi Pat, I haven't measure the current draw of the 44.4v RC lipo pack yet but when I was using a 2x18v Nicad drill pack I was pulling 2 amps continuous @ 19 kmh on the flat and WOT from 5 km/h would pull 10 amps. I now cruise at 22 km/h with the lipo pack but I would still expect it to be...
