Azub and Grin Tech. All Axle Install?

All axle can be fitted to the front but you won't like it after a while. It will take some minor fab work. Brakes will put a lot more stress on the suspension than motors will FWIW. Unsprung weight and steering feedback on the front will be annoying to say the least. MAC/GMAC motors are...

(Beginner) Long-term battery quality: EM3EV, Grin, EBike.CA, Luna

They are complicated, it easy to see a few QC errors potentially slip through. I've used my FLIR camera to image during hard charge/discharge and no hot spots were detected. I doubt LUNA does that with each one. So far mine has done really well. Don't recall the cells, but they're the higher...

(Beginner) Long-term battery quality: EM3EV, Grin, EBike.CA, Luna

I've got one of the clear potted ones. Sat on the bench for about 6 months, and was installed about a year ago, so about the same vintage. I figured for the first 100 charge cycles I would track data for SOH under varying load & charge conditions to look for trends. Battery current is...

IGH’s (Internally Geared Hub’s) - Sturmey Archer, Shimano, Enviolo, Kindernay, Rohloff

I had a 73 Triumph GT6+ in the mid 70's. Smiths Gauges. Cable Tach. After about 50 miles the cable would begin dripping hot oil at a rate of about an ounce a minute. The drops would fall in a rather sensitive area. Sure got your attention. The previous owner could never get it fixed for more...

Looking for a torque sensor with a unique set of requirements

Torque sensors are generally one of 2 designs: Cantilevered Pressure Sensor, where a lever is displaced by chain tension, and a Thin Film Pressure sensor at the other end varies resistance. Low cost and low resolution. Has erratic control at lower speeds due to chain tension variances...

Building a Trike for elderly father

Take a ride out to Alameda and visit with Zach Kaplan. Zach is a top quality (not quantity!) rated trike dealer in the nation across the Recumbent community and has quite a few similar customers in the area. I would recommend a Delta for ease of sitting in the seat. As long as the rider has...

E-bike mid-drive motors hardly outperforms hub motors

I tried a real life simulator a few years ago with two HPV Scorpion FS 26 trikes over an 18 month period. 3 different Direct Drive Hubs, 2 Geared Hubs and two Mid-drives. Ride profile makes a huge difference in capability and efficiency even with a mid drive as does powered wheel size...

    Injecting Statorade on GMAC motor.

Ergo, I would not put stator aid in a MAC. Seen it tried and within an hour it found it's way out. It is easy to add. Maybe the higher rotor RPM and gear splash, not sure. Here is what the innards look like: Can you provide a little more detail on the system and ride profile? Just in case...

    KMX Tornado -- Recumbent Cruiser

Convection cooling may be better than you think. The faster the rotor speed the thinner the boundary layer which is like a thermal insulation blanket. Higher internal air velocity of a geared hub penetrates the boundary layer and transfers more heat via forced convection. At about 220 RPM...

    GMAC + phaserunner + CA3 (v3.15) : speedometer issue

We have one with the same issue. Justin mentioned that the ground path to the PCB pad for the speedo input had too much impedance, recommended soldering a jumper from another pad ground.

    KMX Tornado -- Recumbent Cruiser

Interesting build as E-only power. Keep the MAC under 50A peak and 30A sustained. Without human assist the brief stints of high torque human output the motor will have to work much harder; granting it more current to overcome is a dangerous temptation so keep an eye on the winding temps...

How do you think solid state batteries will change how we use hardware?

For most, I believe Solid State Batteries will change what you're riding. Many may be in wheelchairs by the time they're become practical.

Puzzling battery issues with a Luna Wolf battery pack

I have this battery on my trike and had some concerns about it. It's fair to say I've only been charging it to 80% and recharging about every 3-4 AH used. Charge it with the 300W 1-5A Charger. Normally charge it to 80% and top up after each ride. Last time I charged at 100% at 3A rate...

    9c kit and uphills

I get about 10 minutes of Wide Open Throttle (35A) on a 12-18% steady climb before the 14 AH battery begins to droop enough I'll back off. Phaserunner-MAC 10T on a trike, total weight with me is 260 lbs. I pedal at about 100 watts and average speed in the a 15-17 MPH range. Phaserunner heat...

Durability geared motors (MAC / GMAC) vs. direct drive (9C, Crystalite...)

We have a pair of MAC 10T's we've been running since 2015 on HPV trikes. 1800 watt peak and they see that often - sometimes sustained for up to about 20 minutes on a climb - battery limited. After 5000 miles the gears and clutch still have over 60% life left. So in the reliability race...

Durability geared motors (MAC / GMAC) vs. direct drive (9C, Crystalite...)

2 MACs, 10T and 12T. 5,000 + miles each. First time apart. Gears have at least 50% life remaining. Replaced gears and clutch in one because I had spares. They're mounted on trikes and resides in steep foothills. Safe to say they get a workout (52V 35A).

Hub to Mid conversion for a trike - talk me out of it.

Ergo, add a new smaller battery, your range is about to double. You will loose the triple chainrings. Its possible to run a double ring with a Fat Bike Derailleur. Or you could build a wheel with a 3 speed internal hub that accepts a 8-10 speed cassette like Sturmey Archer RSK. Get an...

    MAC motor worth it?

I ordered a 10T direct from MAC several years ago about the time Paul separated from EM3. Phaserunner Vs. 40A Grinfineon (10T Gmac)

My original driver was an 18 FET Infineon Trap wave with a MAC 10T. Peak Battery Amps at 40A on either one. Did several sustained climbs at full throttle (500+ foot rises). Phaserunner Phase Current limit is 90A don't know about the Infineon was on Phase Current. Differences: Infineon had...

    Geared Hub vs Mid-Drive?

Cabling can be rerouted but you may need to add some Brake Noodles at the exit of one of the drums. Elastomer can work pretty well its just set up rather hoaky on ICE trikes. Has the rural British design all over, but it works within the limits of reasonable expectations. HPV uses a combo...
