Basic, non-tandem, Rohloff Hub: How many watts?

The Rohloff will work fine with a TSDZ2. On a trike can't really gear it low enough to be at risk of snapping the shearpins. On an upright the rider exerts much higher peak pedal pressure than a bent, while a bent rider has a larger angular moment of power input. The max force in torque of a...

What is this weird sound from the GMAC hub motor? (video)

Dynamo Hum. Last time I heard that sound was from a Magic Pie that was overheated with one phase of lower inductance and resistance. The time before was in a Frank Zappa song. :) Spray a little lithium grease or WD40 on the gears and clutch while its moving and stay out of the spray - if the...

With a MAC10T, what provides is the pedelec functionality?

I put this together nearly 6 years ago, with over 5000 miles on it now. Updated battery & boom mount about 4 months ago. http://www.triketech.com/Drivetrain/PowerAssist/HPV-MAC-V2.html

With a MAC10T, what provides is the pedelec functionality?

Maybe that depends a bit on the quality of installation. Both of mine have 5+ years trouble free.

With a MAC10T, what provides is the pedelec functionality?

The noise came from the TSDZ2 ahead. It has the plastic gear on the primary reduction set. Its the secondary 10-70 tooth that's grinding. Suffice it to say the quality of the way the teeth were chiseled out is clearly lacking. Single speed should work, but fender won't fit.

With a MAC10T, what provides is the pedelec functionality?

Pretty much, along with a grommet. ICE wheels are built on center rather than offset. You'll need to look into more info on that before stringing up a wheel. An offset will work but the chainline is too close to the frame.

With a MAC10T, what provides is the pedelec functionality?

Human input is measured with a Torque Sensing Bottom Bracket (TSBB). A few different types mine is a Thun although Sempu, Bafang and few others have begun to produce them. Thun is the most accurate (rivaling some of the $$roadie stuff) but it only measures the left side input, assuming most...

    Geared Hub vs Mid-Drive?

The hillclimb video was shot when I had a Trapezoidal Wave motor driver; thats most of the noise. Updated to a Sine Wave motor driver which has almost eliminated the electrically induced noise. Up to about 200 watts the sound level is less than running knobs on the pavement. It doesn't get a...

    Geared Hub vs Mid-Drive?

Indeed it will, and steeper. Short video of MAC 10T climbing 17% grade.... http://www.triketech.com/Drivetrain/PowerAssist/MAC/MacHillClimbWeb.mp4 From what I've found as long as the wheel is turning over 40-50 RPM the MAC 10T will take 25 amps continuous in near triple digit heat until the...

Reverse eTrike Primarily For Snow/Ice As Well As All Season

You'll want the weight over the driving wheels and if possible at least 2 wheels driving. I'll toss out what might be an ideal starting platform. Greenspeed Anura would be an ideal platform. Some folks add a motor up front for All Wheel Drive. Greenspeed also had a quad option that bolted...

How many watts do I need?

The original underboom mount was for rack mount package and at the time (2015) I wanted something down and dirty for testing the concept. Down & Dirty worked for 5 years. Recently updated the battery (Luna Wolf) and relocated components. The fabricated mount has a locking slide with a...

750-Watt Limit in USA: How Relevant?

Enforcement of e-Bike laws are not an economically viable civic investment. Bafang BBS02 is rated at 750 watts "Continuous", but on a full power demand will deliver 1350 watts Peak for a few seconds than taper off. Most drives state the Continuous rating although I've seen some with peaks over...

Not sure. The seller has a few nice trikes. Over the last few months a couple of jewels have surfaced in the trike market, this is one of them.

How many watts do I need?

Watts Up? To determine watts requires velocity. I plugged in 10 MPH. This returns only the power in Watts consumed by gravity for the climb; not the rolling or aero friction. Speed is linear can double the Watts for 20 MPH. Of course aero drag not included which at 20 MPH would be in the...

    Geared Hub vs Mid-Drive?

I'm just approaching 6 years and 5000+ miles on an HPV Scorpion FS26 assisted with a MAC 10T Geared Hub, Phaserunner Driver, CA3 Computer, and Thun Torque Sensing BB. No issues other than burning out a battery. I have a couple of these and recently had it apart; gears/clutch in fine shape. I...

How many watts do I need?

500 watts for a Mid Drive. You'll lose the front derailleur; I've managed to add one with a fat bike Der but it adds more offset. At 500 watts you can run a cassette with 3 speed internal safely - or any 8 speed and Rohloff. Rohloff is good to about 750 watts. Both TSDZ and BBS02 drives can...

Do some motors have more/less torque with the same power levels?

The 48V peak speed is about 29 MPH, the 36V is about 22 MPH. We normally ride about 10-15 MPH. Many steep grades where we ride, 10% climbs some over a mile long. We pretty much ride the same speed (mostly side by side) on the uphills & flats, but sometimes I'll see 35+ MPH on the downhills...

Do some motors have more/less torque with the same power levels?

Copper losses account for some but not all, and it happens with both controllers, each time swapped the Phaserunners were paired. 12AWG battery to Phaserunner (10") 14AWG to Hub (21"), 14AWG internal. The MAC is like a Direct Drive with a 5:1 ratio. Here is the inside view: This may drift...

Do some motors have more/less torque with the same power levels?

The OP question pertained to the motor not the motor driver, but point taken. The gear ratio difference also brings up the topic of efficiency. At half RPM one motor will be less efficient than the other at lower speeds. Pole switching frequency plays a huge role in efficiency levels at low...

Do some motors have more/less torque with the same power levels?

Basic electronics tells us that winding counts will impact torque and voltage constants. Voltage Constant isn't the battery voltage its the voltage level a motor produces over a given RPM range. Torque Constant is the amperage required to produce a given level of torque. Both are generally...

Setting up Phaserunner with mostly unknown motor specs?

Read the Autotune & programming instructions about pole count settings, you'll need to know that value. You may need to open it up to get a count and gear ratio multiplier.

New "TSDZ2 Torque Sensor Central Motor"

A little noise is expected but this seems a bit extreme. At 10 feet away its in the 52dB range. Rider needs earplugs. Here is a video; the noise you hear is coming from the TSDZ2 mounted on the trike ahead. http://www.triketech.com/Drivetrain/PowerAssist/TSDZ2/TSDZ2_Bryce_Up.mp4

New "TSDZ2 Torque Sensor Central Motor"

Wow, 338 pages. I bought an early TSDZ2 36V, VLCD-5 direct from Tongsheng in 2017. It has the nylon primary gear and is well greased. Secondary gears (10 Tooth Pinion/70 Tooth Spur gears) are pretty loud and add quite a bit of drag. Close inspection revealed that the Pressure Angles of the...
