    It may just be a setting issue and the wrong parameter is selected for the PAS, If one has an lcd to enter in to the C settings then make a change with C1 to value 1 if it isn't already so.

    Does the hub have an internal speed sensor or ext ? If none set P2/0 and it will take a calculation form PAS if fitted. For P1 you will likely need to set it to 46 for a DD hub.

    Yep some cheap crappy PAS sensors work both ways they can vary a bit, the better dual hall sensors should solve the problem.

    If you aren't getting motor drive via PAS, one may have the C1 value set incorrectly. It depends on the sensor type use.

    Have you ever tested a normal metal box controller ? If so the process is the same. Test the mosfets via the phase wires with no battery power and if they check out, test the motor halls with power via the 5v line.

    Parallel yes or no

    I also parallel batteries and do so using different celled packs and capacity with no issue, just make sure SOC is as close as possible before connecting I aim for less then 0.2v. A simple led £2 volt metre wired to each pack allows me to keep an eye on the voltage every now and then.
