    GT's Curious Custom build

Hi guys, balance wires connected And ... . . . . . . . Just needs some finishing touches, but it rides fantastic. At the moment, I'm charging the batteries and then some shakedown runs, and then ... next bike :D

"PVC pipe" lipo battery case build

 - You can filler rod weld PVC, I've done it before. You use a specialised heat gun that has an outlet of about 6ø and filler rod 3ø, the trick is to get the temperature correct

    GT's Curious Custom build

How do you connect 84 wires (14 batteries x6 wires each) in the correct combination? And this with all the batteries loaded and wires connected (using 3mm coraplast, these are a very tight fit) This is with the batteries removed to show: 1. the jumper wires from each 3S3P pack to the next 2...

Big fire ball today - Ctrlr REPAIRED !

How would you know it was blown? If it were and you then connected your main leads, you would then blow your main fuse anyway (given you have a short somewhere in the rest of the circuit). Yes, could drain your pack over a week or so if you leave it connected

Big fire ball today - Ctrlr REPAIRED !

Hope you don't have it mounted next to your LiPo then :D No, I'm sure there is a way of calculating it though! (or try it  )

Big fire ball today - Ctrlr REPAIRED !

Ohm's law states that the current through a conductor between two points is directly proportional to the potential difference across the two points. Introducing the constant of proportionality, the resistance, one arrives at the usual mathematical equation that describes this relationship: I = V...

    E-bikes running with the Gas-bikes

I understand that there are "use" differences between a trail bike and a road-racer that enable the road-racer to corner faster on a race track, but given the same two bicycles with the only difference between the two is the battery placement (one high = higher CoG, one low = lower CoG), why...

    E-bikes running with the Gas-bikes

Why is having a higher CoG better? I've just done a rudimentary force / moment diagram and I can't see where the difference is. Could someone explain it for me please? Edit: Ignoring the width of the tyres (for a bicycle)

Does a Racing Bicycle Need a Steerable Front Wheel?

How would you expect to balance the bike at lower speeds if you don't have the ability to steer (thereby changing your CoG)? How would you ride in a straight line without steering (given that a straight line is turn left .. turn right .. turn left etc)? It's worth noting that there is a $5000...

    GT's Curious Custom build

Thanks mate. That's what I thought but I had a chain misalignment issue with the BB and I mistakenly attributed it to the assembly. All good now but. Thanks for the appreciation, I really enjoy this hobby and don't mind the time spent creating something unique (even if strange at times )...

    GT's Curious Custom build

Thanks for the offer KiM but I have all the materials, it's the"doing" that I'm not confident about  The Aprilia already has a bottom bracket driven motor running 8S LiPo, the only one with the frock is my custom :? I looked it up there first, but found no reference. It did show the...

    GT's Curious Custom build

A few photos, hope you find them enjoyable :D Size comparison to the 26" Aprilia Bike assembled this morning and ridden around to get the mechanical bugs eradicated. I think I may have assembled the bottom bracket incorrectly - does the bearing cage face outwards or inwards (it's been a...

    Front and Rear Hub Motors

Yes, agreed of course, and even if each had the exact controller, motor resistance and wheel ø there would still be one motor stronger than the other, but you won't notice it in practice (although John might) :D If it was me, I'd put the stronger motor on the front!

    Higher voltage = more torque?

If phase amps are identical then you have identical motor torques irrespective of battery voltage (at least that is my understanding). The thing is the phase amps won't be identical and will be higher for the higher battery voltage for the same battery amperage draw.

Commuter Booster - <1kg Friction Drive

:o Not everything works first time, and some things never work, but you have to try ideas else you stagnate. Going back to your memory problems for a bit (as in the µC's, not your's), have you gone through the code and used the smallest variable types possible (bytes instead of ints, ints...

Commuter Booster - <1kg Friction Drive

Fair enough, it was a thought. How do you mix the two motors? Hubbie to take off and friction for cruising?

Commuter Booster - <1kg Friction Drive

Hi Adrian, whose bike? If you want to build your brain-box with all the trimmings but run out of memory, an additional µC could be used (they're cheap enough in the Nano version). That would enable a more modular approach to the various versions, yes? GT
