CycleAnalyst causes motor pulsing / power cutting in and out

ok thanks! i'll try messing with the CA. Hmm, I used to run the bike at 14s and 48v LifePo4 so maybe I set the LVC to something higher back then and running it with 12s is triggering something.

CycleAnalyst causes motor pulsing / power cutting in and out

I recently put back together my TidalForce frame bike. It has a Crystalyte HS3540, Lyen 12 fet controller, and is running 12s lipo at 15ah. After a big move 3 years ago + 2 more kids, I finally got around to getting this bike back together again and functional. This morning was my inaugural...

    Dahon Speed D7

After moving a few years ago, I finally got around to putting this bike back together again. I have been commuting with it. It's been fun. I moved my watt meter from the rear back up to the front handlebars so it adds some more wires but at least i can see what's going on while riding...

dead cell in an almost new Turnigy 5Ah 6s

dnmun, would it be too dangerous for me to just send you the 4s pack so you can do whatever testing you want with it? i think it might be a bit beyond my skills to mess with it. well, i might get there at some point but the batteries are stored outside as of now and might deteriorate faster...

left lipos for 3 years charged up...

i'm still working on building an IR resistance setup. i bought a small light bulb socket and hooked that up to my lipo but the amp draw is really low (~0.2?) even though i put in a 60 watt bulb. my guess is that this socket is set up for 110v. when i put in a 22v 6s lipo, the light bulb is...

how do parallel balance tabs work?

i did some searches but couldn't find an answer to this. how do parallel balance tabs work with parallel charging? for example, if i have 2x6s 5ah lipos and i parallel balance charge them (put leads in parallel and put balance tabs in parallel), will every cell in each battery get balanced...

ok i'll do that this weekend if i have time. that's the 4s pack that i'm not giving away because i want to try that test...

    controller overheating?

i checked on this and the phase wires seem ok. i also rode the bike around the block and it performed as expected so i think i'm ok now. i'll be sure to keep a much closer ear on the motor though and also take the long way home to avoid that hill.

dead cell in an almost new Turnigy 5Ah 6s

i have a bunch of chargers. but there's no guarantee that the charger will be ruined...maybe just the charging cable. i guess i could charge it all up and then just short the leads but i think my leads would actually just spark and break off (using andersons). i actually don't know what the...

dead cell in an almost new Turnigy 5Ah 6s

i could always do a fun experiment in my back yard...i guess it would be my own version of hooking it up to a charger and letting it charge above 4.2v and see when it blows up (if ever). of i can just get impatient and drive a nail through it to short it out.

Looking for some advice on a new build please

maybe a dumb point but ebike and light weight don't really go together. how much weight would you save by going with aluminum and is it really worth it by the time you add in your motor + batteries? but in any case, a nice set of torque arms would be fine.

Electric bicycles and weight loss/lifestyle change

obviously you will likely get the most exercise if you just ride a regular bike (no motor). in fact, you'll get the most exercise if you ride an old, steel, crappy, huffy...especially if the brakes scrape against the rims, etc. but even if you don't pedal at all and just ride your ebike, you...

dead cell in an almost new Turnigy 5Ah 6s

Interestingly enough, I have a 6s pack that is slightly starting to puff (the plastic turnigy wrapping is still fully entact though) and I'm guessing that I have a bad cell. Anyone in the Seattle area want it for free? Otherwise, it's going into a discharge + salt bath before disposal later...

    controller overheating?

I don't know the exact motor but it is a 350w ebikekit geared hub motor circa 2012 (I think this one: http://www.ebikekit.com/clearance/other-clearance-items/motors/rear-350w-geared-motor/). I purchased the full wheel though with the rim, spokes, etc. It is on a 20 inch rim on a folding bike...

    controller overheating?

I'll take a look at the plugs tonight. thinking back, towards the peak of the hill (maybe about 20 yards from the apex), the motor definitely was bogging down. at the beginning the motor was doing maybe 80% of the work and my pedaling was 20% but at the top i was probably doing around 90% and...

    controller overheating?

i was riding my small folder bike today (dahon) and it has a 350 watt geared rear hub motor from ebikekit (purchased about 2+ years ago). it is hooked up to 10s3p lipo (37v 15ah) and a 9 fet lyen controller. it was performing well today on my 16 mile round trip ride (8 miles to/from work) but...

    electric brake levers

i ended up installing this brake lever right adjacent to the hydraulic brake lever. it's easy enough to pull on both levers at the same time if I want to stop the rear wheel. There's a small piece where the head of the cable lies that gets caught and causes the lever to not disengage (so the...

    electric brake levers

i agree and that's why i'm making sure that i install this. fwiw, the electric bike LBS that installed my rear hydraulic disc brakes removed my electric brake since it was hooked up to my old cable brakes so i am in the process of putting it back on. i'm fine with having 2 brake levers on...

    electric brake levers

thanks for the info. i actually did do a search first (not using google search) and saw a little bit of info but i didn't really see anyone else with this setup (using brake lever solely for the purpose of braking with the motor). i searched for the subject of my post though so maybe i didn't...

    electric brake levers

How do electric brake levers work? I have a lyen controller (12 fet) that has 2 wires for the brake lever. I used to have this installed so that when I pull on my rear brake lever with my right hand, this causes my motor to brake in addition to engaging my rear brakes. However, I recently...

left lipos for 3 years charged up...

i was out of town most of the weekend but got back last night and spent a few hours working with these batteries. well, one of the 6s packs is puffed so i put that one aside (it's outside on the cement along with my 4s that has one bad cell). the rest of these batteries seem ok...i took them...

left lipos for 3 years charged up...

I'll report back with some numbers but I usually ride at around 14s (52v) 10ah rarely pulling more than 40 amps so I don't think I'm as aggressive as others with batteries so I might be ok with some sag but we'll see. Thanks for the info! RVD.

left lipos for 3 years charged up...

Ok thanks for the info. I have not measured IR before but did a few searches on Youtube to see how other folks do it. It looks like some people measure voltage with a multimeter (which i have so that's good) and then run some load on it (with light bulbs or whatever) and then measure the...

    Hyperion EOS 1420i NET3 14s Balance Charger...

I did a few searches in this thread but didn't see the problem that I observed last night. I was doing a storage charge on some 6s 5ah lipos. Most of the cells were around 3.95v and when doing a storage charge to 60%, it would discharge (as expected) and finish up at around 3.82-3.83v/cell...
