    folding bike conversion?

has anyone done a conversion on a folding bike? i did some searches and found a little bit of info but not really as much as i was hoping for. i'm thinking of taking a dahon speed d7 (http://www.dahon.com/bikes/2011/speed-d7) to use as a base. this uses 20" wheels so i will likely get a 20"...

    New Crystalyte Motor series (HT35 / HS35 and HT24 / HS24)

burnt wires? what does the motor sound like if the wires get cut? i was riding yesterday when all of the sudden, power stopped going to the wheel. when applying throttle, i got a low rumbling cough sound instead of acceleration. the wheel didn't lock up or anything but acceleration stopped...

    charging 16s lifepo4 with 14s lipo charger...

uh...that's exactly what this post is about... i am basically asking if it's ok to bulk charge my 16s lifepo4 at 14s lipo at 3 or 4 amps. seems like from most of the answers, it's ok to do so with some minimal potential negative effects so i will keep doing that.

    charging 16s lifepo4 with 14s lipo charger...

no, my bms doesn't have leds on it (like ping). it's a fairly standard chinese made lifepo4 battery from golden oasis. the standard charger that they shipped with the batter is a 4 amp charger so i figured 4 amps would be safe. i can charge at 3 amps (or even 2 amps) to be safe. I'm not in...

    charging 16s lifepo4 with 14s lipo charger...

unfortunately the hyperion 1420i only goes up to 14s life mode. i think this is ok because i am not really using this to fully charge. i only use it to add a little bit more juice back to the battery. for more background... i leave a charger at work. this is the standard lifepo4 charger...

    charging 16s lifepo4 with 14s lipo charger...

ok, this is probably a really dumb question but i'll ask anyway... I have a hyperion 14s charger and a meanwell 500w-24 power supply that i use to balance charge my lipos. I also have a 48v lifepo4 20ah pack. this is 16s lifepo4. Is there any way that I can use my hyperion charger to charge...

    RVD's first ebike (TidalForce S-750, 9C 2807, etc.)

I wouldn't say that it's noticeably quieter. It might be a little bit but I think it's similar. I don't really hear the motor when I'm riding down the street at 25+ mph...I just hear wind noise. It is a little heavier though. Overall, I think the reason to upgrade (if you decide to) is for...

    48v lifepo4 low voltage

My friends are unfortunately kind of cheap so when I tell them to add another $120 for a CA, they seem to balk. I am going to start installing $30 watt meters though but it won't have LVC though. I'll just have to tell them not to let it run too far (they will probably just use ah to see how...

    RVD's first ebike (TidalForce S-750, 9C 2807, etc.)

I should update pictures here one of these days. But anyway, I have made the following changes: 1) Changed the rear wheel out to a Crystalyte HS3540 with sensors 2) Changed the controller to a Lyen 12 fet controller 3) Have 2 sets of batteries. 18s lipo is used on weekends and gets me in the...

    48v lifepo4 low voltage

I have a 48v 20ah lifepo4 battery from golden oasis (http://www.goasisenergy.com/yahoo_site_admin/assets/docs/48VLiFePO4batterypack.137162907.pdf). i tried a test today to run the battery down to its bms limit to test how much range i get. my lvc on my cycleanalyst is set to 44v and this...

calibrating a cycleanalyst with a watt meter?

one minor note. don't forget to adjust your readings in your CA if you have brake regen enabled. e.g. if your CA reads 10.5ah used and you regenerated .8ah then you used a total of 11.3ah, not 10.5ah.

couldn't pass her-18 mph in spandex

well, i ride a road bike most weekends in lycra. i use my electric bike as a form of transportation because like most of you (and most road cyclists), i just don't like cars, gas, etc. road cyclists actually annoy me as much as you guys. i would say that around 50% of them are just miserable...

    New Crystalyte Motor series (HT35 / HS35 and HT24 / HS24)

I've been riding my HS3540 for the past week or so. I generally ride for 16 miles pushing about 30 amps. Total trip is about 45 minutes and I use up about 10+ah (600wh) on my 48v lifepo4. the motor does get hot to the touch but i can hold my hand there for about 5 seconds or so before i have...

I want your opinions on e-bike Legal issues

this guy will grow up to this (fake story but maybe this guy will make it real): The Arizona Highway Patrol were mystified when they came upon a pile of smoldering wreckage embedded in the side of a cliff rising above the road at the apex of a curve. The metal debris resembled the site of an...

calibrating a cycleanalyst with a watt meter?

thanks. the problem is that unlike lipo (which i can use for awhile to calibrate i suppose), i'm using lifepo4 for my commuting battery. this just means that i don't know how many ah i am putting back into the battery when i charge. the charger just plugs in and eventually turns green when...

Coincidentally, I was commuting this morning and I ran into the guy again. If it's possible, he actually got faster. There was a detour on the beach trail so we rode up on the regular street and I took the right lane. I was riding at 34-35 mph and he was right there behind me drafting the...

i ride a lot on weekends and yes, we do sort of laugh at electric bikes. we recognize that they're faster than we are but we're also sort of like "what's the point?" but i commute on my electric bike so i always explain that it's more about using a bike as a form of transportation than a form...

    DoctorBass Torque Arm Installation

i've been really conservative with lipo by charging only to 4.10v and discharging to 3.7v. but just reading about random accidents every now and then (fetcher, john, lyen, etc.) gets me spooked. i'm still not 100% comfortable with it...especially because i do stupid stuff every now and then...

    DoctorBass Torque Arm Installation

i basically built my own switch with an ignition wire. my controller has 2 red and 1 black to connect to the battery. i am using a small block that takes up to 2 reds and 2 blacks and connects them to up to 2 reds and 2 blacks. so i have 2 reds and 1 black plugged in from the controller. i...
