Acid test - Mountain Climb- 3220 motor hv160

I don't think it is necessarily geared right if he was averaging 22 mph. If the top speed is around 40, the motors aren't going to be at their most efficient speed, which is the main reason they are heating up. I'm guessing he was losing a lot more than 10%. With a Nuvinci, you can always have...

Acid test - Mountain Climb- 3220 motor hv160

Actually, Matt's new drive is a DaVinci. The Nuvinci is the CVT hub that many of us are starting to play with. Come to think of it, though, one of these might solve your gearing problem in that it has a 350% ratio range, from .5:1 underdrive, to 1.75:1 overdrive. It is rated for 7hp continuous...

    "Zephyr" - Finally, the "v4" Fechter/Goodrum/Hecker BMS...

Yes, there's a slight correction applied. The calculated value for 48.7K/120K is 3.612V, but with 1% tolerance, this can range from 3.591V to 3.633V. If you want to go to 3.7V, the best value I see is 52.3K, which puts the center volatge at 3.694V, with a range of 3.672V to 3.717V. -- Gary

LVC / HVC / Parallel board run - open for suggestions

Ouch! I feel your pain as well. Just in the last two weeks I've had to scrap three different test board runs for the "Lite" variants we are testing. -- Gary

    Nuvinci developer kits for cheap

Hi Rick, I guess I missed your thread, but I'm glad to hear you have experience with these. I'll be picking your brain, for sure. :) I received my 36t Staton splined sprocket/freewheel adapter yesterday and JR is sending me some spokes and a rim this week. I still need to get the v4...

Acid test - Mountain Climb- 3220 motor hv160

There are several of us that are about to find out. :) Check out the Nuvinci developer kit thread. Anyway, I'm going to marry up one of Matt's v4 drives (the new Davinci won't fit the space I have...) with an Astro 3220-7t and his heavy duty belt drive with the torque limiter. The output of this...

Acid test - Mountain Climb- 3220 motor hv160

What would also help is a couple of Matt's heat sinks, or something similar.

Acid test - Mountain Climb- 3220 motor hv160

If you reconfigured the 3220s for wye, it will lower your top speed by a factor of 1.73:1, without having to change the gearing. I think the major problem is that you are trying to run it at too low of a partial throttle. One other potential factor might be that the tension on the belt drive...

Acid test - Mountain Climb- 3220 motor hv160

Matt would probably be the best one to answer this, but my gut says you will probably be okay. Two 3220s is a lot of power. I'm a big guy and one of these on a 20" folding bike will flip me on my ass, every time. :o   Anyway, I'm guessing the motors might get to about 200F...

    Nuvinci developer kits for cheap

I need to put mine in a 20" rim. I assume this means the radial pattern you mentioned? What is a good rim to use? Do you sell these as well? If the shipping wasn't so much of a factor, I'd actually prefer to just ship you my Nuvinci, and have you lace it into a suitable rim, and ship it back...

12s2p LiPo pack kit including 12-channel BMS "Lite" Board

As soon as I test the first article, and verify everything is working properly, I'll submit the boards for the 12s2p version that uses the 8Ah packs. -- Gary

12s2p LiPo pack kit including 12-channel BMS "Lite" Board

Not quite the "full caboodle", as it does not include the actual four 6s-5000 LIPo packs, but it does include everything else needed to make a sealed 12s2p 45v/10Ah battery pack, with full BMS protection. You basically just plug in the 6s-5000 packs to the PCB, and shrink wrap the whole...

    Latest RC Builds

Wow, those are awesome! It's got to be a real kick-in-the-pants to ride one of those. Does being eye-level with a four-year old on trike take any getting used to? -- Gary

    Nuvinci developer kits for cheap

Not me. I'm still trying to sort out the drive/reduction part. I'm planning on using my 3220-7t (97 kV...) with one of Matt's v4-type drives, mounted to the seat tube. The 1st stage reduction will be his 20mm belt drive, with a built-in torque limiter. I'm not sure what the reduction is, but I'm...

High power RC motor and drive unit production

Are there any pics of the V4 drive, and the tube clamps anywhere? I went back about 20 pages, but didn't see any. I'm trying to get an idea about what these look like, in comparison to my original v1 drive. -- Gary

    Nuvinci developer kits for cheap

Interesting, Justin. One potential issue, I think, is that on the Nuvinci, I believe 0V is the lowest ratio and 5V is the highest, which I think is the opposite of what you said you needed. -- Gary

    Nuvinci developer kits for cheap

Actually, I started out life as an aerospace sowtware engineer, back in the '70s. Back then, there wasn't a Computer Science degree type until my 2nd junior year ( ), and it ended up being pretty close to an EE curiculm. Whatever electronics knowledge I received I quickly forgot but in...

    Nuvinci developer kits for cheap

Yes, there's a couple of ways to do this. You can use a switch, to at least cycle between a couple of different shift profiles, but these are still going to be speed-related shifts. If you only wanted two speeds, you could program one two shift tables with just one setting, I guess. Frankly...

    Hyperion EOS 1420i NET3 14s Balance Charger...

I guess I don't understand the question. You want to parallel two Hyperions together, just to increase the charge current? Although it theroetically might work, or at least not blow anythng up (assuming only one of the 1420is had all the balance plug connections...), there's a much easier, and...

12s2p LiPo pack kit including 12-channel BMS "Lite" Board

This is almost right, but the shunts are set for about 4.15V. We made a couple of changes in how the charge control is done, in this newest version, The HVC is set a bit higher than that. The charger/supply voltage can be set at around the same point as the sum of the HVC voltages, or even a bit...

    Nuvinci developer kits for cheap

I'm using an AstroFlight 3220-7t which has a kV of 97, terminated in wye mode. These are sensorless, higher end, RC-type motors that are extremely efficient and pack a ton of power for their size (3" in diameter and about 3" long...). The only downside is that most of the RC-type ESCs, like the...

    Nuvinci developer kits for cheap

Yeah, I worried about this as well, but Tommy, at FFR Trikes says they have been using them on their setups with 3220s, and they've had no issues. I'm also thinking about adding one of Matt's adjustable torque limiters on the big pulley, so that should help limit the stress on the Oddessey 13T...
