    Need help diagnosing motor problem.

Just got a reply from Adam at Grin, they said they'll either send me the part or give me an RMA to return it for repair. Evidently they had a small batch of controllers with way too big heat sinks attached to them. They suggested either doing away with it all together if using <48V or just...

    Need help diagnosing motor problem.

There are no screws on that side to hold it to the case. Or any bumper to hold it up. I think the thermal paste would normally just stick it to the side. Maybe a sharp jar in shipping knocked it loose and from there it just slowly flexed itself to death. I took it apart further this morning and...

    Need help diagnosing motor problem.

I took the end cover off to see what was going on inside. The first photo is the problem part.

    Need help diagnosing motor problem.

So after much hassle, I eliminated the motor itself and the aprx. 9 feet of wiring leading to it (it's on a large rickshaw) as the likely problem leaving only the controller. I removed the controller and noticed that it would 'thunk' when tilted. Not a normal sound for a controller to make! I...

    Need help diagnosing motor problem.

The wheel does make a sort of ratchet sound when moving. This testing method seems a bit beyond my abilities/comprehension. If the phase wires are shorted wouldn't a simple continuity test work?

    Need help diagnosing motor problem.

I have a 9C motor that has stopped turning properly. Sometimes it will make a very faint 'Ting' sound and not turn at all. Sometimes it will turn (usually if helped) but any sort of load will stop it (like just a hand gripping it). I'm thinking hall wires? How to diagnose if it's in the motor...

    e-Rickshaw

I've actually got it up to 12s8p now. I converted my cargo bike to a homemade A123 lifepo pack and moved the 12s4p that was in it over to the chrome rickshaw. I'd like to have the A123s in the rickshaw as well but I'd have to design a much flatter battery for it to fit. Here's the A123 battery...

I've lost regen but still have brake cut-off

I'm pretty sure it's not the battery voltage, it's always worked in the past two years even after I fully charge (about 90% charge for me), something has gone wonky all the sudden. Now the bike is stuttering as well. Time to have a long look at all my sensor and throttle wire connections I would...

    e-Rickshaw

I dream of having that sort of braking action. Going down hill would certainly take some weight off the back wheel though. Perhaps those old drum brakes were not only cool looking but effective. Too bad they would never fit with the motor on there. I think retrofitting a tandem bike brake system...

    e-Rickshaw

Skid? I'd be happy to skid the rear tire but it's not even close. 400+ pounds on 700C / 2 3/4" tires is a tough job to brake. Weight plus the angular momentum I suppose, plus the driver sits right on top of the rear tire so it's got a little more weight on it than a normal bike. The fronts...

    e-Rickshaw

The cyclo is from Cambodia, it's possible that it came from Vietnam originally but the whole region has riffs on the same basic design. I have a chromed one from Vietnam. It rides higher but is essentially the same. This winter's project is to get some better braking. The disc brakes just...

I've lost regen but still have brake cut-off

Just to be clear: I pull the brake handle, the motor will cut out (like it should, even if throttle is still engaged), and the bike coasts. No Regen, real or displayed on CA. Sorry to be dense but are we talking r12 in the controller or in the Cycle Analyst? I wouldn't think that the CA had...

I've lost regen but still have brake cut-off

Title says it all really. I seem to have lost regen but still have the brake cut-off function on one of my bikes. The controller is a 35A Infinion from Justin (Grin Technology). It has a Cycle Analyst hooked to it as well fwiw. Any ideas on what happened? Where to look? This bike is a heavy...

How are your A123 20ah packs holding up ?

Stripped 10AWG wire about 1 1/4" Placed into copper sheet, maybe 1 1/2 x 2" in size. Folded sheet, wire is in fold. Tapped well with hammer. Put heat shrink tube over the whole thing. Made it slightly longer than needed and clamped heat shrink while it was still hot to seal it all around. Made...

How are your A123 20ah packs holding up ?

So far my aluminum block and blue plastic compression pack is going strong (14s). I managed to short out two batteries by not paying attention when building it (vaporized the tabs in a most spectacular fashion) but no problems since. I use the cargo bike it's in a few times a day and charge it...

GM offers big discounts to boost Volt sales - AP

What's wrong with the Volt for longer trips? I just bought one (a used GM test vehicle) and find it to be one of the more comfortable cars I've owned. While I don't drive it enough for it to really make sense in an economic way, I like that for 61 cents of electricity I can go at least 40 miles...

A123 20AHr Pouch Cell Battery Build & Info Thread

I realized I never finished my build posts and thought I'd add some shots of my finished project. I used ''Garolite' (think thin fiberglas) along with some strips of spring steel in between to add rigidity when then plates are clamped together. I threaded each bolt through some thin tubing to...

    Off Grid 12v - Bulk Charging 15S5P

I use the small solar panels on my garage (170 watts in theory) to charge my three bikes. The panels go through a controller to a bank of marine batteries for storage and I have a Hyperion 1420 that is connected through the same controller. The Hyperion works fine as a bulk charger and I can...

Hyperion 1420i balance readings off (?)

Ok, I'm going to reply an answer to my own question in the hopes of possibly helping somebody out who has the same problem with their Hyperion. There is no way to adjust the balance settings. After much research on RC forums, I saw that I was not alone in this problem but nobody else got any...

A123 cells charging super fast/charge on LiPo setting?

Ok I must have been doing something wrong, I got a cell to go to 3.6V on LiFe setting, thanks. Just so I'm sure/clear what you're saying, LiFePo cells have a very flat curve and that even though they all show within a 5mv of each other, some might be at a much higher SOC (more charged) and that...

A123 cells charging super fast/charge on LiPo setting?

I bought 15 A123 cells via the Midwest group buy from Victpower and have assembled them into a 15S1P pack which can be seen here: http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=38761&start=30 When put on a 600W charger at 54V (11A, about 1/2C rate) three of the cells really take off from...

A123 20AHr Pouch Cell Battery Build & Info Thread

Ok so here's my first attempt at an A123 pouch setup. These cells are from the Midwest group buy of the VicPower cells. It's pretty much what a lot of people were talking about: stainless steel rods with plastic standoffs covering them for insulation threaded through holes drilled into the...
