Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

Tire diameters.... A. The Schwalbe Pick-Up in size 24x2.6" should have an outside diameter of 637mm (65mm width x 2 + 507 bead seat diameter = 637mm) B. The same outside diameter 26" tire would be 1.54" wide. Most bicycle tires have an aspect ratio of 1:1...which means the height is the same...

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

I'd like to know if there is a difference between the 2000w 60v motor and the 1,500w/52v motor as well. My guess is they are identical but I have not verified it. Why a 20" wheel instead of a 24"? I prefer a 24" just so I can use a one cross lacing pattern instead of a Radial/Modified...

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

I would go with a 52v/14s battery if it is legal in your area. 52v/14s is 58.8v when fully charged and will give you a little more speed, a little more capacity/range, and more power with less heat than a lower voltage. Power=VxA and the "A" is what does the heating. Actually it is the...

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

The 24" wheel will work in a frame that came with 26", 27.5", or 29" wheels but there are a few things you'll need to watch out for: A. Ground Clearance...your bottom bracket will be pretty low and your pedals will hit the road if you turn very sharply. The way I deal with this is I change my...

High performance & durability Cannondale Semi Recumbent

I built a full recumbent bike about 10 years ago and I eventually abandoned the project because it was too unstable :). I still like the aerodynamics and I may do it again if I want to chase a Land Speed Record at Blytheville, AR with the East Coast Timing Association.

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

IF I had it to do over again, I'd go with a Leaf 4T motor in a 24" rim and I'd run a Schwalbe Pick-Up 24x2.6" tire. This is a link to the tire: Schwalbe Pick-Up | Super Defense | Black-Reflex | 26x2.15 | Addix E | 11159144 You have to scroll down a little bit because the 24x2.6" size is not...

High performance & durability Cannondale Semi Recumbent

Below is a pic of the recumbent I'd like to try...M5 Low Racer: Wonder how it would handle with a motor in the rear and a battery under the seat :). They also make a "tail kit" for it to give you some storage and reduce the overall aerodynamic drag.

Suggest me a strong 26" rim ~40mm width

What about an Alex MD35 rim: MD35 - Alexrims I use the MD35 on my off road bikes in a 27.5" diameter and they have held up well. The MD35 also comes in a 26" version.

Suggest me a strong 26" rim ~40mm width

I agree...I have a Schwalbe Pick-Up 24x2.6" waiting in the garage if I ever lace up my 24" rim :).

Hub motor recommendations for a cargo bike in a hilly town

They don't recommend a Radial lacing pattern, they said "The spoke holes are paired sufficiently close that there is NO NEED to have the spokes cross over. With a radial lacing the spokes have an effective angle that is the same as a regular hub with a triple cross." In the unique case of...

Hub motor recommendations for a cargo bike in a hilly town

First of all, changing the winding will NOT give you more torque! The torque per battery amp is set for a given motor design no matter what winding you use. Secondly, you are comparing apples and oranges when you compare the Bafang G60 which is a geared hub motor to a Direct Drive hub motor...

    Favourite high power hub motor?

Where did you find the efficiency for the motors with the .35mm laminations and the 55mm stators? I haven't been able to find anything. I was considering sending Crystalyte an email. Thanks

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

I agree...I ran a 20 wheel and a 4" tire on a bike that came with 27.5" wheels and I have also gone the other way and ran a 29x3.00 tire on a bike that came with 26" fat tires. I was thinking of using a 24" wheel and V-brakes in a frame that came with 26" wheels so the wide 24" tire would...

    Favourite high power hub motor?

Has anybody considered and/or tried the Crystalyte UFO or H55 series motors? The stator is 205mm in diameter and 55mm wide/tall. They weigh a little under 20 lbs so not nearly as heavy as the QS205. I am waiting on a response from Crystalyte about the differences in the UFO and the H55...I...

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

Brakes....what type/design of clamp on the rim brakes is the best for the rear of an ebike that is running a 3" wide tire on a 40mm internal width rim? Is there a specific brake you would recommend...link please? Pads/shoes are another discussion but that can wait. Potential examples...

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

It might unintentionally end up as a Mullet bike but only because the 24" rear wheel is a requirement to help with over heating and a 26" front tire handles better...but that is TBD. I have compared the handling of a 20" front wheel to a 26" and I liked the 26" better because the 20" wheel was...

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

I have not tried the Salmon pads...I may have to do it now that I am aware of them :). Thanks The other disadvantage of rim brakes is they wear your rim. It is much easier and less expensive to replace a disc than it is to replace a rim. On the advantage side, rim brakes are lighter.

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

I agree the list is pretty short. My list of requirements for a donor bike is below: A. Disc brakes front and rear. I appreciate them when a clueless car driver pulls out in front of me when I am doing 45 mph. I prefer hydraulic calipers but the cable operated calipers work OK if you keep...

Not when it is wet. The coefficient of friction between steel or aluminum and wet rubber is somewhere close to ZERO :).

Suggest me a strong 26" rim ~40mm width

Wide rims are nice but part of the problem is nobody makes a good bicycle tire that is wider than ~2.8" and the only "good" tire I know of that is that wide is a Schwalbe Super Moto-X 27.5x2.8". After that, the widest "good" tire is a 2.6". The Schwalbe Pick-Up and Super Moto-X along with the...

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

Same here except finding bikes with disc brakes is pretty challenging. I can swap forks to get a disc on the front but I'd prefer to have the brackets for the rear caliper come on the bike from the factory. Ordered a crank from "Cleary Bikes" with 89mm crank arms and installed it on my Schwinn...

Grins All Axle V3 Fat Bike Motor

Just to jump on Chalo's comment a little bit...the 10T sprocket is very small and there are two problems: A. The small radius of curvature requires your chain to flex more which will wear your chain faster than a larger radius. B. The number of teeth that are engaged with the chain is very...

Fat Bike High Power Motor options (3000W+)

I sent NBPower messages repeatedly asking who produces their motors and I could never get an answer. For that reason, I ended up going with a Leaf motor with a 35mm stator. It is probably some little mom and pop shop in China...that could or could not have decent quality, I couldn't find the...

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

I am keeping an eye out for a steel Mongoose or Schwinn mountain bike frame with disc brakes and 26" wheels. I think the Schwinn Axum 29er is going to work pretty good once I change the crank arms. The Axum actually came in two frame sizes...17" and 19", mine is a 19" frame. I seriously...

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

Just installed a 26" front wheel with a Schwalbe Super Moto-X 2.4" wide tire on it and I already had a 26x2.5" Maxxis Hookworm on the rear with the 26" wide rim from Leaf. The donor bike I am using is a Schwinn Axum 29er and with the 26" wheels/tires the crank arms are too close to the ground...
