19" Motorcycle Wheels vs 26" Bicycle Wheels (rim and tires)

That's one difference between DOT rated and E rated, I think that in Europe every road going tyre has to be E rated no matter what the size.

19" Motorcycle Wheels vs 26" Bicycle Wheels (rim and tires)

Yep its an interesting one in the UK. Now that we are all governed by EU laws, they are trying to standardise the regulations. The UK has a history of people building wacky racers/kit cars/ toilets on wheels etc and registering them. Apparently the UK government refused to give this privilege...

19" Motorcycle Wheels vs 26" Bicycle Wheels (rim and tires)

Inspected both at initial test and if ever pulled over by the police. £5k fine and 6 points on licence if not road legal. (12points is a driving ban) From another site So it looks like 'road legal' tyres have just been put through a test in order to comply to certain standards. I'm...

19" Motorcycle Wheels vs 26" Bicycle Wheels (rim and tires)

Looking to get 2.5's but they arent road legal and having trouble finding a supply as race tyres and crazy expensive. May give them a miss as im a few mph short of the 200mph rating:)

Definitive Tests on the Heating and Cooling of Hub Motors

As said, I suppose a lot of people were talking about the optimal balance level between cooling, higher amp draw and every day hassle factor, good to know:) Think ill stay at 200ml as I'm more interested in trying to get the heat out of the oil once it's max'd out....

Definitive Tests on the Heating and Cooling of Hub Motors

Great thanks, I was wondering if this was the case but as I read that 100ml was a good amount to use, I though that this would be enough to cover the winding. Each motor is obviously a different size; the motor I'm using is pretty small with just a 30mm wide stator but obviously needs more than...

Definitive Tests on the Heating and Cooling of Hub Motors

Ive done a few tests over the Christmas period without the heat transfer idea that I want to try out. I'm sure this oil cooled bit has been covered before in more detail, but running at 100v 60A on a 9c clone. Standard motor not modded Overheat (90 degrees) 8.12 minutes Oil cooled with 100ml...

19" Motorcycle Wheels vs 26" Bicycle Wheels (rim and tires)

Thanks John, No wonder we are often confused (or I am), a comprehensive quick ref chart would be cool to have, maybe fork sizes should also be included?

19" Motorcycle Wheels vs 26" Bicycle Wheels (rim and tires)

Do you know if the manufacturers rim width is usually internal or external, guessing external? ill get my measuring stick out and get a list up of the various combos that I have laying around.... Maybe a ride height box and total combo weight (front wheel, no motor) would also be in order for...

19" Motorcycle Wheels vs 26" Bicycle Wheels (rim and tires)

Yep sorry, just realised that:) Not sure if ride height has been factored in before, It probably has?

19" Motorcycle Wheels vs 26" Bicycle Wheels (rim and tires)

I think that this can vary a bit depending upon the width of rim the tyre is being squeezed (or no) onto. Narrower rim may pull the width in slightly and make it slightly taller and vise versa? Warrah and myself couldn't figure out why we had pretty much the same ride height with him running...

Twin drive vid, cool, i've been thinking about that, but there is always someone whose already done it on here; so when one motor overheats you switch?

Definitive Tests on the Heating and Cooling of Hub Motors

Good point, I'm using rivets at the moment and of the 8 on there only two are leaking (part sealed with high temp silicone). There are open ended rivets which I'm using at the moment but also closed ended which ill try out next... Also with a load of copper rivets protruding, im figuring that...

Definitive Tests on the Heating and Cooling of Hub Motors

Edit; to keep with the title of the thread, ill test with standard motor, then oil cooled, then no oil but with above riveted on, then with both. I'm not tech enough to draw graphs but will take the same varied terrain route and video the temp gauge and timer to try to figure out whats going on.....

I'm going to try this out, unless someone knows better and says that its a waste of time??? It's intended for oil cooled.

19" Motorcycle Wheels vs 26" Bicycle Wheels (rim and tires)

Thanks John, makes sense. I suppose modern motorcycles dont have to factor in torque vs speed as much as vintage ones needed to, in order to make up for lower HP. Sort of guessed it but good to know for sure.

19" Motorcycle Wheels vs 26" Bicycle Wheels (rim and tires)

Could anyone give me the low down or link me to a thread about wheel sizing. I've noticed that lots of people are running really small back wheels and larger front, is this for torque purposes? I'm trying to equate it all to motorcycle world, where smaller wheels are more common all round?
