    Gen2 Nissan Leaf inverter

Just found an awesome paper detailing the differences between the Gen1 (11-12 MY) and the Gen2 (13-17? MY) http://saegtl.org/ev/data/uploads/ev-content/gtlev_tp_2014-01-1879.pdf

Sevcon Gen 4 Errors and Solutions thread

Very interesting with the display programming. I did it all by hand on my unit using the display a couple years ago. Might give this a try sometime soon. If I'm understanding correctly, you are using the DVT software to program what displays and where/how big it displays on the screen? Sent...

    75-5 & 75-7 Motors - Looking for Test Engineers

Currently have a R6 with a Size6 and 75-7 motor. The motor has been modified to operate as a 6 phase motor in the future with the addition of a size4 controller. 28s of 2012 Nissan Leaf cells. 6000 RPM =110mph, usually cruise at 75 (-4100RPM) for 10-20minutes. Can really do any profile to...

    Nissan Leaf Cells Test Data

Ok thanks guys. I have some 2012 modules. They only hold about 55-56Ah in them, but I'm able to pull 640A at peak out of them. So I call that about 10-11C. Eventually when I have to upgrade this pack I want to be sure I can get a bit more power from them.

    Nissan Leaf Cells Test Data

I read somewhere in another thread that the 2015 Leaf cells may have a higher C-rating. Can anyone confirm this? I know that they have a tweaked chemistry of some kind to handle hot temperatures better and improve warm weather cycle life.

What happens if controllers can supply 1000's of amps?

Drag racing would be a lot more reliable. We could stop blowing up brushes with DC motors and actually set some records. 200mph+ I understand that a DC controller power stage is much simpler, but there is currently a reliable 2000A controller available. Zilla 2k. We actually have two 4K...

    Ultra power dense charger project.

I've been using the 324Vdc value for all of my calculations. Thinking about it more thou without a input capacitor to smooth it out, the average voltage may be a more realistic value. What calculator are you using? I'd love to compare it to the excel file I've made to calculate all of this

    TESLA high performance tuning discusion

Haha I can tell you first hand that this is not the case. The name does have draw, but cant say its brought much money in Your quite right that a set of brushes is small potatos, but most of the time your not damaging brushes. The commutator can be easily damaged, the springs always melt and...

    TESLA high performance tuning discusion

This is exactly the problem. The Garlits car would be Brushless already if the controller were available to do the 1600HP+ needed for the job. But hopefully things are shifting that way with some more development.

Nice work. Do you have an updated schematic or anything? I ordered parts to put one together but haven't really gotten past that point yet. Great progress

    Ultra power dense charger project.

I have few questions. Why do you not use a filter capacitor on the output of the rectifier? This gives you a higher usable voltage when you only have 110Vac (ie I have a 117Vdc pack) and would the smoother voltage not make life easier on the boost circuit. Along the same line, I...

    Ultra power dense charger project.

Sweet! The pricing for the parts is very enticing. Glad to see you work through design/test. I just started creating a parts cart on Mouser to get an idea of cost. Also trying to read as much as I can on Buck converter circuits. I'm aiming for a 5-6kW charger with this topology. Wish I...

What kind of parts cost estimate would you say one of these chargers would run? Debating whether to wait and try building one or purchase an off the shelf charger.

    Ultra power dense charger project.

This charger could up to 150Vdc pack on 110Vac and about 300Vdc pack on 220Vac. That's pretty cool. I have a 117Vdc Leaf pack. Just using some HLG meanwells right now. I'd love to build a prototype along side you if you want to split PCB or any other costs. Just let me know

    Ultra power dense charger project.

How does the efficiency come out with your simpler charger? I understand that poor power factor inherently gives you some extra losses. Looking forward to see where you take this project.

jonescg's NEW electric racebike BUILD thread!

Buckeye Current has had no issues with the Emrax motor. Yes it may need more cooling, but right now his motor (well bike) weighs too much from the sound of it. So get a lighter motor and then improve the cooling if needed. Bike will run faster according to Jones. Buckeye current also tested...

    Honda Insight Lithium Battey Selection

Thanks for the input Nobuo. I should clarify the most continuous power I'd draw would be about 40A or something like 5kW. Any modern 18650 pack of 2kWh or more would handle the power with ease. More likely continuous would be 15A total or about 2.5kW or so. Burst current would be 120A and...

    Honda Insight Lithium Battey Selection

I have a 2000 Honda Insight with a number of electronics mods. One such modification is the ability to manually command specific levels of assist and regen. This allows me to turn the vehicle into a PHEV of sorts. Add 5kW of electric assist lets the engine get into lean burn at 70mph. With...
