Ping battery problem - need help

A long overdue reply on this thread ... So, I ended up solving my battery problem by re-soldering one of the "cell sense" wires, and flipping it upside down went mounted in the bike (before the battery would lay on top of these small wires). Not sure if the flipping helped, or if it was simply...

Ping battery problem - need help

999zip999, yes the wife is ok. It looks like I'm going to have to open my battery, and I need some new heat shrink wrap for my BMS anyway. Would anyone know where I could buy some in the bay area? I've tried RC shops but they don't carry big enough sizes, I've tried Tap and Jameco electornics...

Ping battery problem - need help

Replaced the BMS with the new one that Ping sent me ... and it didn't solve the problem :( Turns out one of the wire from battery had a bad connection somewhere, which I believe I found, re-soldered it ... and that didn't fix the problem either :( Anyway, I went to work with it today, started...

Ping battery problem - need help

Fyi, My current workaround consists I'm not charging the battery completely ( I time my charges and then monitor till I get between 55 and 56 V) I guess that's not ideal for cell balancing, but it does trick while waiting for the replacement BMS.

Ping battery problem - need help

This may be an unrelated question, but if I wanted to use a switch ( or a relay ) to disconnect my battery from the BMS ( instead of plugging and unplugging Anderson connectors, should I put it on the ground or positive wire ? While I can't use the bike I might as well finish building it the way...

Ping battery problem - need help

Ping is sending me a replacement, but you're right that I could robable get away without the BMS for discharging... However I like the idea of having a short circuit protection, which I guess the BMS provides, right ? On the charging side is it the BMS or the charger which has the HVC ? Are the...

Ping battery problem - need help

999zip999 I currently have a 9C 9x7 although I've made the delta/wye mod on a 9C 6x10 so I might switch when I get my battery problem solved, and fix some mechanical friction problems due to the added relays in the new hub ;) John, I really don't think it's a controller issue at this point, as...

Ping battery problem - need help

I've replaced the controller back to the 35A one, and will keep things that way for now. Ping is goon to send me a replacement BMS, so hopefully I'll be back on my bike in no time. Till then, I have to figure out how I'm going to commute...

Ping battery problem - need help

Well using the light triggered the BMS again, and it was back in this 44V to 57.5V oscillation mode... Disconnected one of the group of 8 wires coming from the cells, and plugged it back => same oscillation, tried the other one, same. Tried both BMS back to 57.5 V. Light back on,BMS triggered...

Ping battery problem - need help

Did a full charge (didn't take long ) and then i measured all the cells except the first one because the only lead to measure it is from the ground, and it goes through the BMS which frocks up things... More on that later. so here are the voltages : 3.59 3.60 3.59 3.59 3.59 3.60 3.60 3.60 3.60...

Ping battery problem - need help

Dogman, Thanks for your answers. You're always helpful. I'll try the slow discharge again, but if I remember correctly even my 10W lumenator triggers the Bms to shut down after a couple minutes. That's 0.2A at 50V... And why would the battery voltage constantly switch between 44V and 57V under...

No, I simply use Anderson pole connectors.

Ping battery problem - need help

So, I did a quick video of what I'm seeing tonight. I topped my battery (only took a couple minutes) then I plugged the voltmeter into the charge port and plugged the controller. A few seconds in the video I turned the throttle, BMS kicks in and shuts down. As can be seen voltage quickly drops...

Ping battery problem - need help

yep, the batteries are the 2.5V, and the BMS has the leds ... all LEDs are on after the charge, and the CA did read 60V when I initially plugged the battery to the controller after a full charge. But it seems that pulling power from the battery brings the voltage quite low. I usually charge...

Ping battery problem - need help

Hi, I've have a few problems with my ebike lately, and I'm wondering if it wouldn't be a battery problem. About 2 weeks ago, ebikes.ca mailed me a 40A controller as they had originally sent me a 35A one, and I had ordered a 40A. After the swapping the controllers, I started seeing some strange...

ELECTRIC TRANSMISSION DELTA /WYE and SERIE/PAPALLEL stator

I'd like to do this mod to my rear 9C, and there are a few things that I'm not completely clear on. Ideally, what I would do : - get 3 50Amps automotive spdt that I'll put inside the hub (are they going to be fine with 52V ?) - replace all the phase wires with teflon high temp wires (someone...

Ok, I think that I'm going to try this delta/wie mod ... doesn't seem too bad to put in place, but I'm going to need some new tools, I'll also use the opportunity to change the wires that get into the hub. I'm heading to the delta / wie thread to ask build questions ... even after reading the...

    Going faster

So, it's been about 1 month of effective riding since I got my e-bike, and I've got about 500 miles on it. My setup is fairly simple : Nine Continent 2807 on 700c wheel + 40A controller from ebikes.ca and a 48V 20Ah battery from ping. I get about 28 mph - 30mph out of it depending on wind, on...

    ping battery charging questions

Thanks for the info dogman. You were right about the charger getting the load. Luckily for the cable from it to the battery acted as a fuse at its very base, so with a bit of re-soldering it works again.

    ping battery charging questions

Hi, This morning when I arrived to work, I plugged my 2A 60V charger to my 48V 20Ah LiFePO4 battery for charging, and when plugging the connector I got an electrical arc ... I pulled the plug out, and some solder (which I believe came from the female connector on the battery side) had landed on...

    Where to begin

I haven't made pictures of the box as I was making it, but I really came up with the idea of how it would work as I was building it. I'll open it this WE (as I want to finalize it), and I'll take pictures at this point, and I'll explain the process (which I made up as I was building it). it's...

    Where to begin

No, not with the kids yet. My wife is going to europe with them for 6 weeks in about 2 weeks, and I think that I'll only start bringing them to pre-school after that (but who knows, she might get tired of doing the commute sooner). I'm planning on doing a bike ride with the full family this WE...

    Where to begin

Just an update as I did my first ride to work and back yesterday. Thanks to everyone who helped me with advise on building my e-bike. 1. It's freaking amazing, with a combination of pure joy and fear 2. On my way to work, with a light wind in my face, I used 8Ah out of the 20Ah in my battery...

    Where to begin

Well, luckily I live in california, and it doesn't rain that often. Second, I also have the train option for the rainy days. And finally we have a 2nd car, so my wife could drop the kids on the bad days. I didn't want to re-invest in a gas powered car, but I might buy a Nissan leaf when it...

    Where to begin

According to ping I'll get two packs of 105*150*200 mm. I've modeled that out of shipping boxes, and if they end up being that size, I'll have multiple ways to fit them in my triangle. Do I really need to keep the cells vertical ? As I'm not sure yet which axis is the vertical one this might be...
