Easiest battery lawn mower to convert to LiFePO?

so far I have always used BMS from Paul at emissions-free.com, would drawing more than the rated current damage the BMS or would it just limit the current to 60A or whatever it is rated at? OR is this a question for Paul?

Easiest battery lawn mower to convert to LiFePO?

Has anyone used a BMS in converting one of these? I have a yardworks (cheap crap) that I bought for $25 with dead SLA batteries. I happened to have a pair of the exact batteries laying around from rebuilding UPS's so I put them in but that was 4 years ago and I expect these will be toast soon...

    Homemade Battery Packs

You are correct, I connected the strings of cells on the ends which is less than ideal but this is a stock controller and does not pull huge amps. I made the decision to go with ease of building and put the connections at the pack end. The speed is pretty much stock 35kph as I didn't change...

Hybrid car battery packs for EV bike project.

How are you making out with building a pack from these cells? I just started a thread (before I found this one) about cutting up the battery from a hybrid GMC truck. The local insurance salvage has one with a reserve bid of $400 CDN (not far from 150 pounds you paid). I am looking at doing an...

    GMC hybrid battery pack

The local insurance salvage has the battery pack from a 2010 GMC dual mode hybrid. I have found very little about this other than it is 300V NiMh battery and apparently weighs in at about 300Lbs. The reserve is $400 and the auction closes wed am. if nobody bids, then they will lower the...

    Homemade Battery Packs

I took a couple more shots. In this first one you can see the whole pack. The top and bottoms and the sides of the pair in the middle have rubber pads on them that I get from the bottoms of the small 5 cell Makita battery packs. After approx 10% DOD the cells are still pretty much in balance...

So maybe a strip of duct tape in between each parallel string of cells?

    Homemade Battery Packs

You are right, the 32ah capacity just barely eclipsed the fact that they are pink! I went with 12p config because the C rate is so low with the laptop chemistry and there are six cells in each laptop battery. Some shots of the jig. A string of cells ready to be soldered The tabs folded...

    Homemade Battery Packs

I recently built a 12p14s pack for my wifes e-bike. I had the good fortune to obtain a box (~60) of brand new laptop batteries, so I cut up 28 of them and built a pack. I took pictures of the project and the results. Is this the place to post or is there a better thread? Just a picture of...

Scrap-E my first (sort of) build

Ordered the direct drive kit from Cell_man a couple of days ago, with the 12 fet infineon controller. Patiently waiting now while getting ready to build the battery box.

For all my fellow snow bound riders

I bet some of the controller guru's here could modify a controller to use a hub motor as a generator to simulate pedaling load! I know, I know, we build electric bikes so we don't have to pedal in real life so why pedal in virtual space.

For all my fellow snow bound riders

You could get studded tires and do battle on icey streets or you could do this: http://www.instructables.com/id/Google-Bike/ But if you tell your boss that you rode to work virtual space he might offer to pay you with virtual money

    My Stink-E

This is a wonderfull bike! I wish I could have found a Stinky myself but here in the flat prairies I felt I was lucky to find my used Scrap (Scrap-E) Seriously, looking forward to a video post both to see your bike in action but also to see some not -30 weather

Scrap-E my first (sort of) build

As I mentioned the cells that I stacked in the mockup are garbage cells that have zero charge and were just used for mockup because there is no danger from shorting them out. The cells I have for the actual pack are Konion US18650VT that have been charged to a storage charge of 60% which is...

Scrap-E my first (sort of) build

Doc, I am planning on using all Konion cells, Most are us18650vt's but I do have a number of us18650gr's (laptop konion's) they are higher power but lower current than the vt cells. Would it be ok to use one of these in each parallel set?

Scrap-E my first (sort of) build

My initial plan was to build 15 packs of 10 parallel cells But with such a small frame triangle I would only be able to fit 7 or 8 of these. So I did a cardboard mockup of a battery box to fit the frame triangle And here is the battery box full of cells. These are garbage cells so there is...

Scrap-E my first (sort of) build

After talking to a buddy that rides an e-bike alot, he pointed out that the lower CG of the smaller frame will provide much better handling. It is to small to comfortably pedal any distance but that is not the point here :D

Scrap-E my first (sort of) build

I just PM'ed cell_man about his hub motor kit. I have been collecting konion cells and have about 100 so far. I am planning a 10P15S pack but tried mocking up the battery box in the frame triangle and found that I can only fit 10 of the 10P sets of batteries in there. I think this is the...

Scrap-E my first (sort of) build

After much deliberation, between an e-bike and an e-scooter I decided on an e-bike. Where I live, e-scooters are motorcycles and must be licensed as such also are then not alowed on bike paths AND you must wear a helmet. I have no opinion on wearing helmets other than I love riding without...

Helmets Part 1,489,348 - To Wear Or Not To Wear

Here in Canada (I'm not sure if it is legislated yet or just proposed) Electric cars will have noise makers that play below 30Kph. The Mitsubishi I-miev that I got to go for a ride in this past summer played an mp3 of a vacuum cleaner very quietly below 30Kph. The guy driving used a switch...

Helmets Part 1,489,348 - To Wear Or Not To Wear

While I agree that drivers need to be as cautious as possible pedestrians have the most to lose in a collision and should do everything in their power to avoid being hit. Here in Regin, SK we for some unknow reason have the opposite problem that pedestrians will cross busy streets without even...

    My Stink-E

Where I live, ebikes are legally bicycles (you even get a bicycle license for them). This means they are legal on the bike paths. My wife's ebike looks more like an antique Vespa than a bicycle, totally NOT stealth. Both she and I have seen and waved to the cops while riding on the bike path...

Nano-tech LiPo demonstration :) Engine cranking

I am realy interested in this idea, a good car battery is $100, and 4 X 4s of these batteries are ~$200 but about 30Kg's lighter. Reduced weight is good for MPG's and performance. If the lifespan (that's why 4 of them in parallel) can match the lead battery, the payoff in MPG (or performance...
