Shipping batteries, or cheap alternative for benchtop testing?

I think that’s going to be it; just need to make sure that short bursts of ~60A are doable.

Shipping batteries, or cheap alternative for benchtop testing?

For what it’s worth, I do have somebody certified who is willing to help me locally, but they want to see the UN certificate, and they want to know that the battery and packaging (everything relevant) is exactly as the vendor would ship it. At the moment I think that four of these in series...

Shipping batteries, or cheap alternative for benchtop testing?

Just a few updates: -Luna Cycle was not willing to provide me with a UN safety certificate, so I wouldn't really be able to re-ship one of their packs. -An unnamed vendor was willing to provide the UN safety certificate, but for a much smaller battery than what I was asking for. They said that...

Shipping batteries, or cheap alternative for benchtop testing?

I’m in Oakland California, and I’m looking to imitate a 48V pack with at least 10AH capacity. This is for a recumbent trike with steer-by-wire, so for the final build more capacity is better... but for now I think that’s a good starting point.

Shipping batteries, or cheap alternative for benchtop testing?

Hi all! I'm building the control system for a joystick controlled electric trike for a friend in another state, and I need to come up with a 48V power source for debugging. It looks like if we buy the ebike battery that he'll eventually be using and have it shipped to me, it will be a royal pain...

    GNG, 1000W 48V BB-drive, $400

For what it's worth, I actually got my credit card refund from the Mister Tao website. It was a small gamble when I placed that order, but I thought that folks would like to know for future reference that although I didn't get my motors, I also didn't get ripped off. Now if only I could find...

    GNG, 1000W 48V BB-drive, $400

An update- my order status on Mister Tao says "refund". The money is apparently in some kind of holding, not back at my credit card, and I can't find a different link or seller on there to try another purchase. I'm going to try to figure out how to get my money back unless somebody has another idea.

    GNG, 1000W 48V BB-drive, $400

Well, here it goes! I just placed and order for two raw motors from Mister Tao. I'll report back when something happens.

    GNG, 1000W 48V BB-drive, $400

Well... I did recently get a new job that pays a lot better than the old one- might as well take a gamble! This time it won't be like the time I got burned on a direct shipped power supply that did less than half it's rated power before letting the smoke out, right?

    GNG, 1000W 48V BB-drive, $400

Sorry if this has been covered- I tried to search (promise!) and read about 30 pages, but how has it worked out for people who have ordered just the motor? I sent an email to GNG via their web form, and got an email back from Jon Chan saying that it would cost $118 plus shipping. I replied with...

Two stage belt/chain reduction- any experience?

Thanks, Bobc- I guess I can make a provision to try an idler as well as slotting the motor and wheel mounts. I'm just thinking about how that idler is going to have to be strong. The good news is that I got word back that I can get the 450 watt 48V GNG for $118 plus shipping. This is going...

Two stage belt/chain reduction- any experience?

Thanks! That's probably a more robust motor than the Turnigy outrunner. I'm trying to remember if there was something other than price that was pushing me away from the GNG and toward the Turnigy. I think that price was likely the biggest factor- I'm not crazy about paying for GNG kits and...

Two stage belt/chain reduction- any experience?

Sorry, my lousy hotel wi-fi deleted a few posts that I made that were better written with inline images and a concrete line of thinking... I just wanted to post this pic while I was thinking about it. The overall width is kind of excessive, even for a wheelchair, so I'm looking at milling...

Two stage belt/chain reduction- any experience?

I've been thinking about this scheme, and this is what I have so far. I want to use a 2"x4" 6061 aluminum tube with 1/4" walls as the core to hold everything, and use a Turnigy SK3 6374 with a small timing belt sprocket mounted directly to it driving a jackshaft with another timing pulley on a...

    BMC v2, principles and operation?

Sgds23- did you have an luck with this? I am presently looking at using similar motors with a Roboteq brushless controller, and I'm interested to know how it's working out. Hopefully you've had some luck! If not, then I'll be sure to post if I do anything to advance this.

Two stage belt/chain reduction- any experience?

Do the GNG motors need me to add hall sensors? I've seen a lot of threads about the trouble involved in adding and configuring sensors on outrunners- the GNG motors are a lot more attractive if they already have sensors installed. At 0.073 ohms and a kv of 67, I could gear them down with a ratio...

Two stage belt/chain reduction- any experience?

I looked at threads about this with some curiosity... I'm familiar with this motor, and it t works reasonably well in some of the chairs that are being used for the sport. However, in my experience the controllers quickly enter thermal rollback. These motors seem to have an integrated...

Two stage belt/chain reduction- any experience?

Whoa whoa whoa- back up! I just read for a minute but it sounds like this GNG motor is a 67 rpm/v inrunner with sensors and capacity to average 1000 watts... Am I missing something? I beleive i also read that its impedance is about 73 milliohms. This sounds like a way better motor for my...

Two stage belt/chain reduction- any experience?

Spinningmagnets- thanks! I will look around to see if I can find pulleys for a 20mm belt. I will probably stay with chain for the last stage of reduction since I can buy the wheel with sprocket and bearing cheaply, then I just have to support a stationary axle. The #35 chain seems really...

Two stage belt/chain reduction- any experience?

So where can I get one of those one-pound RC motors that will do 37 foot pounds at 6000 rpm? I definitely meant inch pounds, not foot pounds, so only 3.1 ft-lbs. Thanks Miles!

Two stage belt/chain reduction- any experience?

As I continue my search, I came across http://www.electricycle.com/ where a guy named Eric Peltzer (is he on this board?) made a bike that's similar to what I'm talking about. I see that he's using a 25mm wide belt for a similar reduction to what I'm considering. His controller is 180 amps, and...

Two stage belt/chain reduction- any experience?

Hi all, I've been lurking a while and posting intermittently as I work on power wheelchairs for a sport called power soccer. For various reasons I'm trying come up with a better motor than the NPC T74, and due to recent developments I am becoming comfortable with the idea of moving away from...

    GM BLT-800W bench racing

Hi guys, I just came across this thread. I'm a long-time lurker and intermittent question asker, my main interest is in building wheelchairs for an indoor sport called power soccer. Sendler22112, thank you very much for posting that video. It appears that this motor has a lower no-load current...

A123 20ah pouch where abouts full tabs $

My goal is to have 8s and at least 40AH- the wheelchair controller can draw up to 250 amps for fraction of a second, but scales back demand if the voltage drops below about 18V. The system also shuts down with an overvoltage error if the battery voltage exceeds about 30 to 31 volts. Would a...

A123 20ah pouch where abouts full tabs $

I can only speak for myself, but I've been away from EV stuff for a while, and just got back to this kind of project, so I am trying to get a grip on what the best tech and best source is. I haven't been on the forum in months, so I am still catching up on a lot of threads to get oriented. I...
