Power Supply Amperage for 44.4V 10AH Pack

I was assuming if I put a switch in line using that small red wire from the controller that goes with the battery pack, that it would turn the controller on/off including power to the Cycle Analyst. The Infineon controller came with a CA plug installed. Am I wrong?

Power Supply Amperage for 44.4V 10AH Pack

Ya, I guess I need a turnoff switch. I currently just have the small wire going to the positive of the battery pack. Or, I can unplug the battery from the controller. Then, I know there is no drain. The wires are easily accessible in my triangle bag. I guess a switch would be less ware on...

Power Supply Amperage for 44.4V 10AH Pack

It is for work, so it has to be done in 9 hours. In otherwords, speed does not matter much. I did not get the Meanwell because I didn't want to mod it to get to 50V. In the end, it would have been more expensive and half-assed considering my soldering skills with anything smaller than 14...

Power Supply Amperage for 44.4V 10AH Pack

It's the cheapest thing I could find with adjustable voltage up to 50V. I also wanted meters.

Power Supply Amperage for 44.4V 10AH Pack

thank you so much. I bought this one with "current limit control": http://www.ebay.com/itm/230674379413?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 Is that the same as CC?

Power Supply Amperage for 44.4V 10AH Pack

Good people of Endless Sphere, please excuse my ignorance. I tried to bulk charge a 44.4V, 10AH, 25C pack with a power supply that has a 1.5 amp maximum rating. This did not work. I was told the battery pack was drawing more than the power supply could put out. It seemed to shut down the...

WOT, Motor Efficiency, and speed limiting

good to know about mixing battery brands. The three way switch rocks. It is much smoother than trying to control speed with the CA. Now I have another cable to conceal. People have commented on how they can not see and feel the bike being electric. I think I will try to work with the four...

WOT, Motor Efficiency, and speed limiting

I measured my triangle pack for two more batteries. Two more may not fit. It would be close. Maybe too close to pad them. I have an 18.5" frame with oversized tubing. In hindsight, I would have bought a used chromalloy, thin-tubed frame with a bigger triangle. I think that would fit 6...

WOT, Motor Efficiency, and speed limiting

Thanks for the suggestions. I want stealth because although the bike will be parked inside, it is in a common public area (stairwell) next to an outside door and there is an after school program for kids in the next room over. Also, I plan on using it in State parks were technically there is a...

WOT, Motor Efficiency, and speed limiting

very good suggestions. I actually already own a cell log and timer. I don't want to get too elaborate at work, since it will all be in a common stairwell and I don't want to arouse suspicion and have management tell me I can't park there. I have not asked permission and plan on just doing it...

WOT, Motor Efficiency, and speed limiting

You guys are the greatest. This is quality: "Slowing down is wrong no matter how donorcycle slices it." This is my first build and I finally got running after two months. You guys are right, I tried limiting the speed to 22 MPH on the CA and it was a let down. Not only was it slow, the CA...

WOT, Motor Efficiency, and speed limiting

Thank you for the responses. I have 44.4 V, 10AH of Lipo. I only have 5 miles (one way) to work, but there is a bit of stop and go and we get high winds. I wanted stealth, so batteries, controller, and excess cable are all in a triangle pack. There is not currently room in there for another...

WOT, Motor Efficiency, and speed limiting

Hello, I need to limit my speed a bit to make it to work and back on my 10 AH battery pack. I can limit the speed with a Cycle analyst, or a three position switch. Which would help the motor run more efficiently? I noticed the motor runs smoother with less stuttering at wide open throttle...

Analysis of Commute Time vs Power Used at Various Top Speeds

Sorry for the double dip. Is it better to limit speed with a three position switch, or the Cycle Analyst? I am assuming the motor runs most efficiently at wide open throttle?

Analysis of Commute Time vs Power Used at Various Top Speeds

I can't believe how cool this post is (and Endless-sphere). I finally christened my first ebike build. I got 165 watt hours/mile on the first run. That seems bad. I have a 44.4V, 10AH lipo pack, road tires at 60 PSI, I did a lot of stop and go, and pedaled 90% of the time at mostly wide open...

Cell gap - how much is too much?

EBJ, I'll try to post a pick of the graph tonight if I can find it and figure out how to get it on here. I'm still new at the Hyperion I can tell you the gap started going out of control at 3.66V but was decent up to that point. As you know, the "Cell gap" box on the Hyperion GUI turns red at...

Cell gap - how much is too much?

Thanks EBJ & Neptronix. This is my first build and it has been challenging. It has been a month so far (nights & weekends), and I did not think it would take this long. Anyway, I took 'em all down to 3.5 V which was very interesting. It got the blood pumping a bit. The worst pack I have ...

OK, I'm sending my first one over the cliff. Thank you for the graph, Neptronix, it is very helpful

Cell gap - how much is too much?

I just checked my charger and it's set at 3.8 for discharge as default from factory. I guess they are getting more conservative. Yes I guess .016 is not that bad, and like I said, the packs do not go beyond .010 when I charge at 5 amps. I guess I am concerned because the other two packs I...

Cell gap - how much is too much?

I swear when I select the "discharge" function on my Hyperion, it is defaulting to 3.8 something which is not very low. I definitely do not remember anything in the 3.3 range because that would make me a little nerveous. I guess I could set it lower, but should I? I do have it hooked up to...

Cell gap - how much is too much?

I have not discharged a pack to less than 3.8V. The charger discharge load is only around 3.5 amps maybe 4 at max (which is annoying but maybe it has to go through the small balancer wires). The largest gap happens briefly just below 4.1V or 96-97% of discharge IIRC. My concern is, even...

Why Lead-Carbon Batteries Will Deflate the Lithium-Ion Bubbl

the batteries will have some uses but they are too heavy for e-bikes. The main market will be stop-start automobiles and maybe hybrids.

Cell gap - how much is too much?

I have four 6s Lipo packs I want to run 12s2p. Two of the packs never have a cell gap over .010V whether charging at a 20 amp rate, or discharging on the charger (Hyperion 1420) Two of the packs have a maximum cell gap briefly of .012V on discharge and .016V on charge (at 10 amp charge rate...

Brake cutoff levers and three speed switch

Thanks, I will be using a twist throttle, so I'm not sure why I would even want cruise control. Is there a reason? So, worst case scenario, the throttle gets stuck and I need to stop, I will be able to overpower the motor by manually applying the brakes? I know it wouldn't be ideal, but what...

Brake cutoff levers and three speed switch

I am ordering parts for my first build using the "new version controller (IRFB3077, 36-48V) Infineon controller." I am wondering if I want/need a three speed switch and brake lever(s) that kill the power? Are they more trouble than what they are worth? I assume the less switch gear you have...
