    "Zephyr" - Finally, the "v4" Fechter/Goodrum/Hecker BMS...

I started a "for sale" thread for the BMS Lite kit combos here: http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=34495#p501227 Everything is in stock, and the kits will go out the same day they are ordered, from this point forward. :) The full-size Zephyr boards/kits will be available...

    "Zephyr" - Finally, the "v4" Fechter/Goodrum/Hecker BMS...

Yes, both the Lite, and the full Zephyr circuits will automatically balance even a grossly imbalanced pack. The difference between the two is simply the amount of time it takes. The full Zephyr circuits have shunts that will bypass about 600mA of current, while the Lite boards will bypass about...

    "Zephyr" - Finally, the "v4" Fechter/Goodrum/Hecker BMS...

I have started offering the "Lite" version, which uses 6-channel or 8-channel boards that can be embedded in with the packs, and uses a separate charge controller that is mounted in a small box, but these are really geared towards LiPo setups because each of these boards also acts as a parallel...

12s2p LiPo pack kit including 12-channel BMS "Lite" Board

Actually either the "N" or the "C" version will work fine. The ones I have here are the TC54VN3002EZB-ND. Yes, the total charge voltage needs to be at least 49.8V. You can go higher than that, but then the HVC-based power cycling will kick in more often, at the end, so it could take longer to...

12s2p LiPo pack kit including 12-channel BMS "Lite" Board

Yes, you could simply change out the TC54 detectors for ones that are slightly lower. Normally, we use the 3.0V versions for LiPo, but this is for "under load" conditions. As soon as the load is removed, the "resting" voltage will recover up to about 3.3-3.5V. For LiFePo4, we use the 2.1V chips...

12s2p LiPo pack kit including 12-channel BMS "Lite" Board

Yes, there's two part changes, one of the resistor arrays, and then the lower voltage TC54 detector chip is used. -- Gary

12s2p LiPo pack kit including 12-channel BMS "Lite" Board

Yes, the idea is that these boards can be co-located with the packs, and shrink-wrapped, if desired. I actually build all my packs this way, and have been doing it for awhile now. Here's a shot of one of my 12s2p 44V/10Ah packs: This one has embedded LVC/HVC boards, from the older versions...

12s2p LiPo pack kit including 12-channel BMS "Lite" Board

I'm sorry that I haven't posted much here, but I have been busy, nonetheless. :) I did have a delay for a week, or so, while I did a consulting project, but that is complete. Anyway, I'm ready to at least start offering full kits for the 6s and 8s Embedded BMS "Lite" boards and the standalone...

12s2p LiPo pack kit including 12-channel BMS "Lite" Board

Yes, that is correct. The charge controller basically just goes inline, between the charger and the pack. Still working on the instructions. As soon as I get them done, I'll start taking orders. :) -- Gary

12s2p LiPo pack kit including 12-channel BMS "Lite" Board

Yes, you can easily do this. I have my 12s2p pack apart, at the moment, I'll post some pics of this, with the embedded boards, as soon as I can. I'm working on the assembly instructions, as I go. -- Gary

12s2p LiPo pack kit including 12-channel BMS "Lite" Board

Okay, I think we are just about ready to go with these. I now have new boards, both in 6s and 8s versions. Testing is complete, and the resistor values we've been tweaking are dialed in now. These will be offered with three different options, PCBs-only, with a BOM and build instructions; a...

12s2p LiPo pack kit including 12-channel BMS "Lite" Board

This so-called "smart" BMS is typical of the import designs, which have low balance currents, and have a discharge limit. You can, of course, simply bypass the output FETs, and maybe figure out how to tap off a signal that could be used to pull down the throttle signal, or you could simply use...

12s2p LiPo pack kit including 12-channel BMS "Lite" Board

Here is what will be available first. It is the latest version of our Zephyr BMS "Lite" design, in an embeddable form. The PCB below shows both 4 x 6s4p and 2 x 8s4p boards per PCB and the new standalone charge controller, which goes in its own small box. These are complete BMS boards, not just...

    "Zephyr" - Finally, the "v4" Fechter/Goodrum/Hecker BMS...

The videos look good. Seems like things are working like they should. :) Here's where we are with the layouts: As Richard said, we both felt having connectors was better and I really like how easy it is to make cables for MTA156 connectors, so that's what we will use. These will be the...

Thoughts on new drive system/s. What would you like?

How about a higher power friction drive? :)

    "Zephyr" - Finally, the "v4" Fechter/Goodrum/Hecker BMS...

With higher C-rated cells, like the a123s, they won't get out-of-balance much at all, so the v4.5 variants are going to work just fine. Richards 100Ah comment I think was more directed at setups using the fairly low C-rated ThunderSky-type cells. Even there I think 600mA shunts are going to work...

    "Zephyr" - Finally, the "v4" Fechter/Goodrum/Hecker BMS...

Here are some shots of the new Zephyr "Lite" embedded BMS 6s4p boards, along with the small separate Charge Controller unit: These boards are not just simple LVC/HVC boards, like I've done in the past. These are full-blown BMS boards that add cell balancing, plus the same two-level HVC and...

Luke's race bicycle of Doom 2.0

Where exactly is this race, somewhere in So Cal? Anyway, all the best, Luke. Do us proud! :) -- Gary

    "Zephyr" - Finally, the "v4" Fechter/Goodrum/Hecker BMS...

Yes, you can simply set the charge to voltage to about 4.15-4.16V per cell. It will balance all the cells to around 4.14V. What is shown above is 4 x 6s boards, but we will also have 8s versions as well. :) -- Gary

    "Zephyr" - Finally, the "v4" Fechter/Goodrum/Hecker BMS...

Sorry for the delays. :) I agree, we need a better way to get to the latest info. I will either edit the first post, or we'll start a new thread for the new version. What is different about this new version, which we will call v4.5, is that it has a new/simpler control scheme for determining...

Charging 14s2p LIPO with Hyperion charger

    Looks good. :) -- Gary
  23. GGoodrum

So... meanwells... have you heard of these?

On our Zephyr and Zephyr Lite BMS units, we actually have two HVC trip points. The higher of the two is used as a "failsafe" that keeps a cell voltage from going too high. When this happens, the charge current will be cut for about a second, or so, and then if the voltage is still too high, the...
