    Lightest Gearbox for Turnigy 80-100-B?

2 pounds sounds much more reasonable, I must have misread that in another thread. I plan on using it in a large ornithopter setup with belts + pulleys for the primary reduction stage and chains + sprockets for the final drive. The setup of these components will be similar to ones used in modern...

    Lightest Gearbox for Turnigy 80-100-B?

25:1 isn't set in stone but is more of a general ratio I'm thinking around, I must state that although my project won't actually be an ebike but will incorporate similar mechanisms for the 80100 setup bikes. Mounting space will be on a 3ft x 1ft piece of aluminum so their will be plenty of...

Anyone use Gates Carbon Belt Drive?

This carbon belt seems superior to conventional belts or chains. It's much stronger, requires no lubrication, very durable towards the elements and is noiseless. Has anyone ever incorporated one of these into one of their ebike projects? zekA4fK7aKc

    Lightest Gearbox for Turnigy 80-100-B?

What is the lightest 25:1 gearbox, or variable ratio gearboxe, that is a good choice with the Turnigy 80-100-B?

Belt to chain single primary reduction stage?

Can anyone explain what kind of applications would use or benefit from this type of reduction system? What is the reasoning to go from a belt to a chain and what benefits does it entail?

    Predator 50/6 Vs. Predator 37?

The link I posted was the only existing page that had any info on the Predator 50/6 and it was very limited. I just got a response from a Plettenberg employee and they said it is for sale but that they do not have any data online, likely because it is rarely purchased I would assume. It seems to...

    Predator 50/6 Vs. Predator 37?

After being impressed by the power of the Predator 37 http://www.plettenberg-motoren.com/UK/Motoren/aussen/Predator37/Motor.htm, I came across the Predator 50/6 http://web.mac.com/goransson/Watts_up/Blogg/Poster/2011/6/13_PREDATOR_50_6.html. Is this a large upgrade from the Predator 37 and do...

    15-20kw Brushless Motor Differences?

What are the features that really set apart the brushless motors in the 15-20kw range such as the Hacker A200, Predator 37, Joby Motors, etc. Is it the Kv that makes a large difference? The Predator has a unique design that allows better cooling from spaces in the center of it, other than that I...

    8600w Outrunner vs 2000w Inrunner w/ 25:1 Gearbox?

Jarnos has 13 videos in total on his youtube account showing the process of building his mechanism, they are definitely worth a look. I feel that your estimate on a 10kW motor is promising seeing as how Jarnos design only used two 2kW brushless motors. That makes sense that a lot of the power...

    8600w Outrunner vs 2000w Inrunner w/ 25:1 Gearbox?

I would greatly appreciate you digging up that information ;D 10 kW sounds very reasonable and doable. When you say drive mechanism are you referring to the gear reduction needed to provide the slow flapping motions? I was very curious to how a persons arms could interact with the motor in the...

    8600w Outrunner vs 2000w Inrunner w/ 25:1 Gearbox?

Thank you for the links and info, would any inrunner motor be considered brushed? The one thing I'm most confused about is that the Turnigy motor says it can support aircraft up to 35 lbs while I've read that 1000w ebike motors (half the wattage of the bmc motor) can move 200 lbs, although I've...

    8600w Outrunner vs 2000w Inrunner w/ 25:1 Gearbox?

It appears I was mistaken, I thought inrunners were made for scooter/bike uses and were required to move large diameter tires while moving the weight of the rider as well while outrunners were generally used on rc aircraft to spin small props at high rpm. Any thoughts on the original topic?

    8600w Outrunner vs 2000w Inrunner w/ 25:1 Gearbox?

I was theorycrafting if it would power a very large ornithopter hence the 25:1 gearbox

    8600w Outrunner vs 2000w Inrunner w/ 25:1 Gearbox?

http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=14427 Vs. http://www.thesuperkids.com/20wabmcbrpoe.html If using these motors with a 25:1 planetary gearbox which would be a better choice? From what I've read brushless outrunner motors can achieve similar tasks because the motor...

    UTIAS Ornithopter with Brushless Motors?

Mother of god that motor is huge! Thanks for your post, it does seem that brushless motor technology is constantly advancing, the motor you posted is the largest outrunner I've seen so far that is relatively lightweight!

    UTIAS Ornithopter with Brushless Motors?

The UTIAS ornithopter flew for 14 seconds with jet powered assistance. The Snowbird ornithopter flew for 19 seconds via leg power. 0E77j1imdhQ They were both considered official flights.

    UTIAS Ornithopter with Brushless Motors?

UTIAS Ornithopter http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UTIAS_Ornithopter_No.1 a-qS7oN-3tA This prototype ornithopter used a 18kw jet turbine engine to achieve enough thrust to fly, is it possible that 18kw supplied by brushless outrunner motors would supply an equal amount of power?
