    stumped - getting motor to spin correctly

    Just got a new controller to replace the one I blew up when the FETs shorted (not the same controller as the old one). After installing it, the motor can only do 4 things from all the wire combinations I used: Jerks alittle and then nothing (this is the default combo where all colors match)...

    controller current and phase wire current

    Hi I tried searching and I couldnt find a definitive answer. Is current in the phase wires entirely dependent on controller/battery current, or is it more the total power supplied by the controller? I.e. Can I reduce phase wire current by using a 72V 20AH instead of a 48v 30AH controller...
