Fitting MAC geared 500W rear motor and Disk Brakes

I've been thinking of trying this out. Is the mounting bracket pattern the same for 6" and 8" rotor/caliper setups?

Fitting MAC geared 500W rear motor and Disk Brakes

well that figures... the disc spacer from that link ships from the UK. ugh. I don't want to wait that long for this.

Fitting MAC geared 500W rear motor and Disk Brakes

do you by chance know how thick the spacer is? the link I replied to by Kudos, shows two of them. a 1mm and a 2mm, so .040' and .080".

Fitting MAC geared 500W rear motor and Disk Brakes

Crap. Please tell me this isn't true on every MAC hub. I'm starting my final assembly, and i've already ran into the caliper hitting the hub. And also the bolts are now too long, since the MAC hub isn't drilled out as deep as my original wheel is. oh, and thanks much for that spacer link! It's...

    Thun bottom bracket sensor purchase?

Does anyone have a link for the actual purchase of a thun bottom bracket sensor? It's hard to believe no one has made a thread on it yet, but I did every search I could think of, and can't find a thing.

Basic battery wiring question about positive wire

While i'm on the topic of the battery, I've been going through other threads on battery hookups for the past hour, and I wonder if I could get a fuse recommendation. 48v 20ah Headway lifepo4 battery. I want to run an inline fuse close to the battery on the + wire. Any recommendations? Also...

Basic battery wiring question about positive wire

My battery has a single + wire, so I want to put a Y-cable off of it to feed the controller and the charger at the same time. Will I have to disconnect the controller (9 FET Infineon) when I plug in the charger + wire? Here's some mspaint drawings to show what i'm talking about.

After having my baby stolen a few weeks ago..need advice

This is the kind of thing that makes me want to run a sting at every location where I want to take my bike. Park it and walk away, only have about 5 big friends in the nearby vicinity ready to pummel any punk who tries to walk off with it.

Rear rim and spokes for MAC hub motor?

That's not a bad idea. A basic plexi template drilled out for a standard shank size, would make it really easy. Could probably sell a bunch of them over time.

700c rim with 12g spoke holes and 12 guage spokes?

and then couple that motor with a nanotube capacitor/battery for the lightest possible battery that will never ever die, no matter how many charges you throw at it. a battery that you can charge at 440v @ a couple hundred amps, in a matter of minutes, but run out at 48v all day long. build a...

Rear rim and spokes for MAC hub motor?

that's a good point about the hit and miss of having them build the wheel. I had absolutely considered just getting it pre-built, but I read so much about them being put together so poorly. so I decided that if I was going to have to take it to a bike shop to get it trued, I might as well put...

Rear rim and spokes for MAC hub motor?

i'm too lazy to go back and look at my post, but I meant the washers that go at the spoke head area, in order to use smaller spokes that will more easily match up to a standard rim. that seemed to be worse than just using smaller spokes and a couple of tightenings over time as the smaller spoke...

Rear rim and spokes for MAC hub motor?

if i'd known about all the issues a month ago when I started this project, I could have taken the motor to the die shop where I work, and given one of the machinists a gift card to do it in his spare time. if I ever do another one of these builds, that's the way i'll go should the hub motor...

Rear rim and spokes for MAC hub motor?

see that's the stuff that worries me about this build, not an issue of whether thinner spokes would do the job or not. if those hub motors were drilled for 14g spokes, I wouldn't have wasted a single minute on selection.

700c rim with 12g spoke holes and 12 guage spokes?

They used cobalt stators at an aerospace firm I worked with back in the day. They went into motors that powered most of the aerospace industry. Our largest capacity motor, which was maybe 20" long by about 12", was said to be able to power every single light in a city block. The burn in...

700c rim with 12g spoke holes and 12 guage spokes?

Cal, as I mentioned in the other thread the smaller wheels would have looked ridiculous on the huge frame of my bike. I would gladly have done that if I could, especially since there were far more beefy rims in a 26" size at pretty much every place I checked.

700c rim with 12g spoke holes and 12 guage spokes?

I meant to reply to this the other day, but I also wound up looking at some pre-built wheels to do that. In the end, i'm glad I called the guys at Velocity, because they spent time on some of the wheels I was interested in, and eventually steered me to the NoBS rim, which looks like it's going...

Rear rim and spokes for MAC hub motor?

@-dg you're misunderstanding my misgivings regarding spoke washers. my problem with that is that every extra point you add to anything, adds to the risk of failure. @cal3thousand my comparison to audio cabling is virtually identical to spoke manufacturing when you consider that spoke wire comes...

Rear rim and spokes for MAC hub motor?

I didn't get that impression from him at all. not that it would matter anyway, i'm using the same spokes he did, because he had luck with them. and really, the genesis of this thread was wanting information for spokes and rims, which I got quite a few suggestions for which I do appreciate. but...

Rear rim and spokes for MAC hub motor?

Well I didn't ignore everyone. There's a poster in here doing just fine with 12 gauge spokes on his build. But the hub hole size dictated something larger than 14 gauge. And when considering that there's only a .016 difference in size between 14g and 12g, i'm really not too concerned here.

Rear rim and spokes for MAC hub motor?

I should be good whatever the size difference winds up being. I've got a big tooling supply place in the area, so I can get pretty much whatever reamer size I need.
