Has anyone tried a Nuvinci CVT? I understand that the original model, prior to the N360 could handle quite a bit of power.

I kept my front derailleur, and 2 out of the original 3 chain rings (42/34). My problem is that my front shifter has 3 shifting positions, so if I overshift, then my chain falls off on the inside. I adjusted my "L" screw on the derailleur to minimize this, but it's not foolproof. I noticed...

jdevo2004, I had the same thing happen to me. Had to replace my chain twice because it got mangled on the inside. Am trying to figure out how to make some kind of "stop" to keep the chain from falling off the small chain ring.

One thing I picked up on in the video at low RPM (around the 0:47 mark) is the kind of "thunk thunk thunk" sound. Mine does that too. In my case, I think my freewheel on jackshaft has some runout, or perhaps it is the bearing inside the jackshaft. I backed off on my belt tension and it seems to...

That's easy. You just power this with a 48V, 5.2A battery. You could also use a Cycle Analyst to limit the power.

Mike, I was thinking about how to simplify the design so that it was more rigid AND less "fiddly". What if the lower sheet pivoted around a riveted axle, rather than slid. In the illustration, the pink circle would be a riveted axis of rotation. The motor would rotate around this and your single...

This might help to understand the issue. The pink shows where the 2 pusher bolts might be located. I found that splitting the carriage bolts helps me to better clamp the left side (as seen in this picture) of the lower sheet. So far, I've only done this to the lowest most bolt, which happens to...

Mike, yes I am. But as I reported previously, I think the problem is that you have only one screw, which is centrally located. Contrast this to the 2 bolts on the upper sheets. The 1 bolt allows for the lower sheet to pull out of square, basically due to the force of the drive chain. Perhaps 2...

I have exactly the same problem. the advice given to me was to build some kind of custom clamp or even weld the upper sheets to the down tube. I am currently limiting my motor to 1kW so as not to exacerbate this problem.

I finally got everything together for a test ride. One thing about the LR kit, it is MUCH QUIETER than the original GNG. That alone is a huge benefit. Thanks Mike!

You might consider 2 pushing bolts, similar to the two bolts on the upper sheet. That will help to keep the motor square to the bottom bracket. The centrally located adjuster allows the lower sheet to twist under load.

I am happy to report that after realigning and tightening everything down again, paying special attention to the down tube clamp and the lower sheet bolts, it seems to stay better in alignment now. I've only run a few tests, but I'll let you know if it slips during regular riding. If you do...

Well, as I said before, the failing component in my kit is the adjustable lower sheet.

I thought everyone was talking about beefing up the bracket on the down tube. I'm talking about some kind of brace that goes back to the seat tube.

Possible solutions might be a straight piece that clamps to the seat post. Or a curved piece that connects to the bottom bracket at the lower sheet. But, that would have to be rigidly attached to the lower sheet so that it can't rotate back against the chain.

The force that we need to counteract is shown by the green vector in the picture. It would seem to me that some kind of stiffener acting in the opposite direction is what's needed. Clamping to the down tube seems like it wouldn't help much, as the jackshaft is still free to rotate (purple...

Mike, I'm back on the project and am having trouble adjusting the tension on the belt and chain. After tensioning everything and tightening as much as I can, the chain keeps getting loose. I'm running a test where I run the motor at full speed and then slam on the brake. That always causes the...

Wow... Where do you guys with full suspension put the battery? I went with hardtail because I didn't want to wear the battery and didn't want it hanging off the back. Thought it would throw off the balance of the bike.

Mike, New question. I noticed the 2 set screws on the jackshaft near the secondary gear. That little gear is a few millimeters off from the chainring sprocket. Can I move that little gear in/out if I loosen those set screws? Otherwise, I'll have to take apart my chain ring again to insert...

Actually, that's not a problem. The fender washer sits outside of the existing flange. The original flange provides the curve to gently guide the belt back into place, while the washer provides a mechanical backup to keep BOTH the flange and belt from falling off. And, yes, I do plan to align...
