Customs payment on an order from Grin to US

I recently got dinged for a $40 brokarage fee plus $8.00 duty on a $45 US order from USA to Canada delivered by UPS, so it gouges both ways. UPS is a huge ripoff, and I'd avoid having items shipped by them at all costs.

    800W Q128c commuter build

Hello ES, Been a few years, and I'm still riding this build daily. 80k km and several drive trains/tires later, the Q128c motor and electronics still work as they did day one. The frame is starting to show its age, flexing like a noodle, so I'll be delving into old threads trying to gather...

New line of budget in-frame triangle bags

Yes, they all fit in the EM3EV bag but it was a snug fit and my use of spacers during assembly was minimal. My battery is quite densely packed.

    Q128 CST / Top Speed / P1 - Reduction Ratio

I have a 36v 201 rpm Q128c in 700c wheel, and as far as I can tell according to the ebikes.ca simulator, it spins true at around 260 rpm at 48V. I've never tried the 48V 320rpm model. I also know that you can often just swap the cores of these motors, re-using the shell laced in the wheel...

    Q128C sources?

You will need to make a core removal tool. This thread has some links to various tools members here have used to unscrew the core: https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=88303&p=1288267&hilit=q100+cover#p1288267 I used the one similar to that of ntr (bottom of page), but I had to...

    Q128C sources?

Instead of swapping just the gears, you can often unscrew the old core from its laced shell and screw in the core of a new motor. I've done this with the Q128c and it worked fine.

Bafang G310 geared hub - 11:1 reduction ratio!!!

The pdf diagram linked through Grin states "OLD 138 mm" in its measurements, which seem to measure outside to what look like lawyer lipped washers on either side of the axle. I'm not sure what to make of it either. The standard wind is backordered atm; I may email Grin and ask how this fits a...

Cant get 1800w 48v ebay brushless motor to turn on

Perhaps check the brake signal, as this may cut off the motor via the controller when the brakes are applied. The thin yellow wire signals the brake and the accompanying thin black provides the power.

Geared Hub Motor - Question on Clutch Mechanism..

Thanks teklektik! The dimpling will be a simple thing to look out for on the next repair ... or post mortem. Also interesting about the cascading effects of initial damage to the races.

Geared Hub Motor - Question on Clutch Mechanism..

I'm curious if how one operates the motor could have an impact on clutch wear/failure. When the motor is engaged, the rollers become locked between the inner and outer races, causing these parts to rotate in unison. Let's say that you are pedaling hard near the unloaded speed with the throttle...

Bafang G310 geared hub - 11:1 reduction ratio!!!

I guess it's not fair to say yet. I got 6300km out of my first Q128c at 10A 48V before it started to make a constant high pitched singing sound, which increased in pitch along with speed. Although mechanically inclined, I have been very short of time. I swapped the core in my laced wheel with...

    Ebikes and negative media

While this is about public rentable escooters rather than ebikes, the idea is the same... reports of people behaving badly riding e-vehicles and creating a public nuisance. The effects of negative publicity surrounding these will undoubtedly trickle down to ebikes and non-car alternative...

What is better to do it or to buy ready one?

ebikes are easy to build for the DYIer, but much harder to repair and troubleshoot when things go wrong. Many of the components are sourced overseas and there is little in the way of support should they malfunction. Fortunately, everything you need to to troubleshoot and repair an ebike is...

hi who has experience with canadian police and ebike spec issue?

To look at the history of enforcement in Canada (and Quebec), I searched the Canadian court registries (https://www.canlii.org/en/qc/) using key words and came up with very little. Based on past court proceedings, there hasn't been much in the way of enforcement, and I couldn't find anything...

Hub motor MXUS V3 3K Turbo and hot temperature (Problem solved!)

I'm glad you were able to get it working! From previous experience, I know the wire colors vary between manufacturers both for controller and motor wires. I wasn't expecting the V3 mxus to differ from previous versions - well, lesson learned and fortunate that Ianhill had come across this thread...

    building battery for 48v 1000w

These are lipo and are best left for the experts, as you can easily burn your house down if they are mishandled. Treat them nicely and you will get years of excellent trouble free service from them. Never store or charge them (or any other lithium battery) in a place where you wouldn't have a...

    Ebikes and negative media

A lot of ngative media regarding ebikes stems from news reports of people riding like idiots and causing general mayhem. A quick search of cbc.ca revealed only a few short articles. how many 18650 battery do i need

The motor you link does not fit your riding style. Direct drive hubmotors produce an electromagnetic cogging effect and are difficult to pedal unpowered. Also, you will need to feed this much too much power to make it 70 miles without an enormous battery and you will need it powered all the...

Bafang G310 geared hub - 11:1 reduction ratio!!!

I might have to try this motor. I've been using the Q128c sourced from BMS battery, as it was the only geared hubmotor around this power level that accepts a cassette. Since I live near Grin, the savings on shipping make this option competitive, tough I'll need to re-lace a wheel. Also nice is...

Hub motor MXUS V3 3K Turbo and hot temperature (Problem solved!)

This seems reasonable; thought I'd ask.. Although Ianhill runs the best wheel size/motor wind possible for heat and efficiency, the fact he needed to switch the halls and phases relative to earlier MXUS motors is very interesting. You should try as @Ianhill has done. In your case, it would be...

hi who has experience with canadian police and ebike spec issue?

The general consensus is that in most Canadian jurisdictions, police will leave you alone as long as you are not obviously speeding and riding aggressively. I have not heard of any instances of police giving ebike riders a hard time in Canada. Where in Canada do you live? Perhaps those with...
