    Magnet Madness

John, Thanks for your reply. It was the chips that were orange-hot when they erupted from the two magnets which collided with each other. The magnets themselves are fine. I'm choosing to repair the old motor because buying a new motor is not affordable on my budget. Thanks again, Mark

    Magnet Madness

This weekend I began the process of cleaning the old failed glue off the permanent magnets in my old Aotema 36v hubmotor. (The motor repair project will be a separate post, when the project is complete.) Total of ten magnets, nine of which were stuck together in a stack on my workbench, one...

I second that emotion....very useful to have some diy skills, and a few tools....one can work miracles with a spoke wrench and a minimum of booklearnin'...

Camerart, You are most welcome, glad you liked Mr. Brown's pages! John in CR, The wheel truing and spoke tensioning process really are no big deal, very simple to perform. Using the info on Sheldon's pages, I was able to restore my hubmotor wheel back into round and true in less than 10...

    Spoke tightening video

I highly recommend the following pages by the late great Sheldon Brown, for self-instruction on how to properly (and easily) tension spokes. The article actually is about wheelbuilding, but if you will scroll down the page, there are several very well-written paragraphs on how to true the...

    Wilderness Energy Misunderstanding

As a noob, I gotta ask.... Would a pictorial narrative post re: the hubmotor rebuilding project, be better posted in the "Motor Technology" section, or right here? And if right here, would it be a new thread, or just another post on this thread? Thanks! Mark

    Wilderness Energy Misunderstanding

Dogman, Thanks for your answer. Methinks I will do a dry run, to fit the magnets on the rotor and determine the spacing. I bet the magnets themselves will determine their orientation relative to each other on the rotor, according to their polarity. Probably gonna use System Three epoxy, with...

    Tiny's Wheelchair Project

Amberwolf, My apologies if my recent post seemed redundant or non-responsive; I earlier could not see my recent posts, and so thought my earlier post didn't get published to the board. Sorry to hear about your having lost four pooches.....I would have died, at that point. I will keep you and...

    Tiny's Wheelchair Project

Amberwolf, My hat's off to you, for your compassion for critters, and your patience and creativity in re-purposing a wheelchair for Tiny. It's possible I may need to do something similar for one or both of my older Aussies, both of whom have blown out their knees and are having mobility issues...

Be careful when buying used ebike parts off Ebay!

I'll throw in my two cents with a somewhat off-topic reply.... Call me old-fashioned, say I'm a relic, say what you will....I wouldn't buy ANYTHING off ebay, simply because I don't see clear recourse for the buyer, should the seller turn out to be a crook or the product defective. I have seen...

    Tiny's Wheelchair Project

Amberwolf, First off, my hat's off to you for designing, adapting and constructing a usable wheelchair for Tiny. Secondly, your compassion and patience are amazing. Not much in life scares me anymore, except for the thought of losing my wife, or losing my doggies or kitty-kat. The doggies...

    Wilderness Energy Misunderstanding

Great point, Dogman!!....methinks I would not have thought of the polarity issue myself. As such, when taking the motor apart, it never occurred to me to note the magnets' polarity. It just so happens, I have a magnetic polarity tester in my toolbox, and it's not too late, haven't yet started...

Well, Okay then.... I shall post the photos and text of the project, when competed, provided it works! If it doesn't work, then, uh.....nevermind!! (sorry about the quote within a quote....too tired to figure out how to edit the code! Mark

    Wilderness Energy Misunderstanding

Hmmmm...... I certainly would NOT want to have a wide-open runaway with my motor, no thanks! I did think of such an event, while designing my old-school, non-electronic relay pack motor control circuitry. I installed a quick-disconnect on the motor leads within easy reach, in case of a...

Mea Culpa, Mea Culpa, My Bad, My Bad.... I have changed the title of my original post to "Wilderness Energy Misunderstanding" because, after another re-read of the hubmotor's printed materials, I have discovered I had misunderstood said printed materials, all these years! Dunno how...

Rassy, Thanks for your reply, and you make a good point about the durability of Chinese-made stuff, and I concur, their quality control has very much improved over the past few years. It's also true, the two-wire axle harness should have tipped me off, but it is only recently, since getting...

    Wilderness Energy Misunderstanding

About ten years ago, I purchased a Wilderness Energy Bike Electrified kit, with a Brushless-Gearless motor for my front wheel. The hubmotor got stored in a hot attic for several years before I got bitten by the ebike bug again a couple weeks ago. I took the bike out for its maiden voyage with...
