    Calculating controller power input capacitance

Yes and Luckily not, a 5000 hour rated electrolytic cap is rated for 5000 hour of "useful life" at the rated temperature (typically 85 or 105dgr.C) and at the rated voltage. Any deviation below that will expand its expected life by a huge amount. (think of servers running 24/7 at 40dgr.C for...

What's going on with my motor?

Did you measure the dc current from the battery/power supply going into the controller? Shouldn't be more than a couple of amps and therefore the motor should not get warm, If it does draw more amps or the motor does get warm it could be a timing issue or distorted hall signals, try running...

Game Changer Page 3 with video of 1700amps!!!!

Good man! wil make me sleep better tonight (was trying to think of a reason why not to put a pull-down resistor in, also was reading up on your gate driving issues on the first 25 pages of your other thread..). A 4k7 alone would drain (pun intended) a 5nf (typical for bigger mosfet?) gate...

Whoooops, a typo indeed... did mean gate to source.

Game Changer Page 3 with video of 1700amps!!!!

A faster but foremost more reliable turn-off of the mosfet, it's pretty common practice. About 2k2 ohms (locally!) per mosfet should be ballpark. Not that I doubt your skills or would interfere with your design, just being curious!

Hi Arlo I like what you are doing here! But why not use a resistor between gate and drain?

1 hall sensor set for 2 controllers. Will it work?

Yes No, these 5 volt outputs are regulated (probably by a 7805) when two or more are connected they will fight each other and oscillate destroying at least one, as two regulated things tend to do so. I would also like to add that it is advisable to keep the ground (batt-) connections between...

Arlo's power stage Leaf controller runs and drives page 103

Great project you have here! If I may add to the 5 volt side of things, this is pretty basic stuff here, certainly compared to the other stuff in this thread. Each chip or consumer should have a local (ie as close as possible) decoupling cap with a low as possible ESR, bigger caps have lower...

    Switchable KV

Good point, indeed it's a dual use ebike but high-speed to me is just 25mph  also like riding thru the mud in the forest at 5mph. As it is the current consumption (measured between battery and controller) is approximately 10 amps at 5 mph and 4 amps at 20mph, would like to flip that...

    Switchable KV

Thanks, you're right, I'm talking about something different, made the above simple diagram to explain.

    Switchable KV

Thanks miles, however I'm not talking about switching from wye to delta, it remains wye. Switching from one configuration to the other: (P means pole number, L means leg number)

    Switchable KV

For my ebike motor (prima powerbike with 9 pole ABB brand motor) to go any faster I need a higher kv motor or switch the windings from (3 times) 3 in series to 3 parallel and how cool would it be to make it switchable on te go? 0-15mph low kv (series windings) and 15 to probably 30mph higher kv...

    Need a simple 36v 250W sensorless controller

Thanks but it may be to sophisticated for what I'm looking for, I could build my own speed limiter with a magnet attached to my wheel, a hall sensor and a pulse counter that would apply the brake input of the controller when the number of pulses a second reaches a certain amount, with some...

Why Electric motors are inefficient at low revs?

To increase low rpm efficiency on a 9 phase motor by switching of 6 of them doesn't make a whole lot of sence to me, looks to me like marketing b* to compete with the latest combustion engines that are able to turn off multiple cilinders to increase efficiency at low power demands. If there is...

    Need a simple 36v 250W sensorless controller

Thanks, so is this the one I'm looking for?: http://www.elifebike.com/peng/iview.asp?KeyID=dtpic-2012-7Q-P96D.9KNYX Most connections I can make sense of but what is EABS?, and can I use it without throttle (not allowed in my country..) and only pas? and is the speedlimit (max 25kmph by law..)...

    Need a simple 36v 250W sensorless controller

Thanks for the advice guys, this is what I wass looking for, however they don't ship to europe? The greentime controllers are easier to get hold of but they don't provide that detailed wiring information and further specifications? Does anybody have detailed info on the greentime controllers...

    Need a simple 36v 250W sensorless controller

Also, I use my bike daily to get to work (and back..) and do about 4000 miles a year.

    Need a simple 36v 250W sensorless controller

I'm looking for a simple and reliable 36v 250w sensorless controller for my PRIMA Powerbike and my wives Piaggio Albatros (technically the same). The original controllers are sadly nothing but trouble, I know electronics and daily repair al kinds of equipment but these are just...italian.. So...
