    Voltbike Yukon

Great weather lately, so I've been out and about enjoying the Yukon. I wiped out twice in two days, unfortunately. Both times I was on a rutted dirt track and I made the mistake at taking my eyes off the road. The first time I was watching some dirt bikers heading towards me and I lost traction...

Just got the Thudbuster ST. Purchased from Biktrix. Very, very nice indeed. It was vasy to swap out the urethane elastomer "spring" (I needed to switch to the denser #7 since I weigh about 200 lbs). When I opened the box I was initially disappointed because I didn't see the extra elastomer...

    Voltbike Yukon

I'm just starting to ride more lately. My odometer is only at 220km. Tonight I changed my stem and grips. I picked up an EVO stem and grips at Olympia on Portage. The bike is a lot more comfortable for me now - slightly more upright. Switching these items was a breeze. The cables had ample...

    Voltbike Yukon

Just got back from a 20 km ride. I got up to 45.2 km/h on a flat road with a light tailwind (25 km/h). Bear in mind, that was with muddy tires (don't ask) on a fat bike. I still had two bars on the battery indicator when I got back. Loving this bike! I did record a video, but it's pretty boring...

I'm learning to manage my battery better as time goes by. I find pedalling on power assist level 1 is more than I need in most cases. I often pedal with no power at all and just use the electric assist for a boost when getting back up to speed after a stop, for climbing hills, or for strong...

Frame candidate, Mongoose Terrex, hardtail 27.5 X 2.8

Looking for frames up here in the great white north (Canada). Saw the Terrex at Walmart for $398, plus 13% provincial/federal sales tax. I can accept some markup to account for currency and business tax differences, etc., but this is freakin' ridiculous. I guess I need to keep an eye out for...

That's awesome! The new version is much nicer. You should send a copy to George at Voltbike.

That was interesting. That Cannondale you got should be a fun build. No chance of doing a hub motor, or are you committed to trying a mid drive?

More or less. I didn't use solvent. I'll have to pick some up, I guess. I also don't have a chain cleaner. I just used some elbow grease and a couple of brushes. It seemed to do the trick. I'll tell you, I'm going to think twice before going for another ride in the mud. It's a real b%*#@ch to clean!

I will confess I was looking at those locks thinking "How hard would it be to break that thing?" I'm glad I was able to get out without resorting to destructive options! :) I don't have a new seatpost yet. I'm still debating which one to get. I think you're thinking of Esting's Suntour NCX. I...

    Voltbike Yukon

Looking good, Esting. Your upgrades and TLC make your Yukon look very clean and stylish. Today I finished cleaning up after my ride in the mud. The derailleur and cassette were a mess, with caked mud and grass. The chain was pretty rough, too. I had wiped most of the mud and clay off the chain...

    Voltbike Yukon

Went out tonight despite the crappy weather (4C-ish with ice pellets). I tried some of the fields and farmer's roads that run along the ditches near my place. I'd walked these before, so I knew what to expect. Lots of big holes from various burrowing critters, but very fun to ride. The Yukon...

Any Giant Roam 2 builds out there?

Anyone do a build with a 2015 Giant Roam 2? http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-us/bikes/model/roam.2/18749/76172/#specifications If so, what motor did you use, and how's that working out for you? I got myself a Voltbike Yukon, and I think I've caught the ebike bug. :D Now I want to try my hand...

Those are the forks I was considering most. Pretty much all the other options are much more expensive, as you probably know. At the price of the Lunacycle forks, there isn't too much at risk. George from VB said they looked like they might work, but he questioned how good they would look. I...

That's awesome range! That makes me happy to hear, because I'm thinking ahead to summertime and what trails and fire roads I want to take the bike on. The more range, the more adventures I can have. :D The weather in Winnipeg has been pretty bad, so I've only put 50 km on mine so far. I went...

    Voltbike Yukon

I took the bike out last night. It was bitterly cold with winds gusting to 56 km/h but I really want to put the bike through its paces. I went into some farmer's fields near my place and was able to test the power in rougher conditions. As I was riding I suddenly ran into some nesting Canada...

    First Build Mid-drive Advice?

This is a fairly common reaction to ebikes, and it's pretty lame criticism in my opinion, regardless of the bikers age. You know it's possible to get lots of exercise with an ebike, right? And even if the bike is 100% throttle and 0% pedal assist, who the hell cares? When someone uses a car or...

    Voltbike Yukon

Nice, Esting! I love the white, and that saddle looks sick! I've got some catching up to do, mileage-wise. The crappy weather here is not making want to venture outside much. That work stand is nice, too. I might look into one of those.

That's great range. I don't know about you, but I find level 1 PAS to be a LOT of power. It will be interesting to see what the range will be at higher PAS levels. I will definitely be testing that out. :) That Suntour suspension and hydraulic brakes from Biktrix look very tempting. The price is...

    Voltbike Yukon

Took it out a few times today despite being cold and windy (like, -14C with the windchill this morning). The Yukon has five levels of pedal assist, and level three gets you to 30 km/h very quickly and easily. I was able to get to 40 km/h on a flat stretch tonight using the throttle and no...

    Voltbike Yukon

The Yukon was shipped Tuesday, and it arrived today (Friday). The box was a bit beat up on one side, but the bike inside was well packed and without a scratch. Putting on the pedals and handlebars was a breeze. It took about 30 minutes. The hardest part was removing the large amounts of bubble...

    Voltbike Yukon

I visited Portage Cycle and spoke with the guy there. He was generous with his time, but the way he spoke about technical stuff made it hard to follow what he was saying. I researched the BionX systems and learned they are very sophisticated and highly regarded, but they are expensive compared...
