    Schwinn Tailwind Any Battery Modification

The Schwinn Tailwind is a great ebike but the size of the battery is a little bit of a letdown. I wanted to share a simple modification to the box that holds the motor controller to allow it to accept any 24V battery pack. The cool thing about this mod is that it allow you to continue to use...

Hello World- My Noob Introduction & Proposed Build

A yellow frame - you must really like standing out. Cool use of colored heat shrink tubing to disguise the wiring. I have been contemplating a similar build with mid drive and a 3 speed IGH (not it yellow though). Too many design choices and so little time. Nicely done on your build here.

Designing a $200 ebike kit that climbs any hill

+1 for this suggestion. These bikes show up often on craigslist. Pick one up cheap and add a front geared hub motor to it with a switch to swap between front and rear motor drive. Dump the SLA battery for a Li ion pack in the triangle. These typically came with Ananda controllers with provisions...

    moped hub motor rewind

Hi Zadmx, I guess a good place to start is the existing number of turns and a guess as to how fast the scooter ran to begin with. Thickness of the original wire vs new wire? A bike is likely to be lighter than the original scooter. Do you have any progress to share on this.

Bench testing A2B metro hub motor

desq, Here is a link to the service manual for the A2B Metro. The circuit diagram on page 7-6 (near the very end) http://site.nycewheels.com/manuals/Ultramotor/A2B-Metro-Service-Manual-V1.pdf What did you pay for your parts A2B? I've been looking for one in my area and wanted to know what a...

    Chinese

Credit for the CD ROM belongs to Sony/Philips (ie not American). Credit for the DVD to Philips, Sony, Toshiba, and Panasonic (also not American). We however do get credit for over-sized and inefficient vehicles like the Tesla Model S (4600lbs and ~$70k). Tesla and its ilk were developed for the...

Low Speed DD in a suspension fork?

The original Schwinn Battery for the Tailwind is the rather unusual Toshiba SCiB Lithium Titanate 10s with each cell having a nominal voltage of 2.4V (pack voltage of 24v nominal). As far as I know this is the only ebike with this battery chemistry...

Low Speed DD in a suspension fork?

It weighs 58lbs but you can easily shave off a little weight by removing the rear rack and moving the controller and a modern battery to the triangle. The bike rides really well and the best part is that it comes with a Lithium Titanate battery that is easily revived - credit to Syonyk here...

Low Speed DD in a suspension fork?

I have two Schwinn Tailwinds (his and hers) with the front hub motor. Its equipped with the Suntour Nex 4610 front fork and magnets fall right off it. The dropouts are 7/16" wide and is listed as an alloy as in not steel. Also, this bike was never sold in Walmart ($3200 retail back in 2008 - NOS...

    Walmart Booster Batteries

I am not complaining after 530 miles.. How may miles would the Walmart Boosters have to perform to consider the experiment a success? Boyntonstu, Looks like a successful re-purposing of batteries to me. Goes to show that with proper usage/care/maintenance even discount lipo cells can make...
