How do you guys size your main fuse/breaker?

That's a correct observation, but it's still well within the specifications. (Not even mentioning the controller's specifications probably are corresponding with the motor.) If there's a big discrepancy between the current drawn by the controller and that applied to the motor your controller is...

How do you guys size your main fuse/breaker?

It depends a bit on the kit used. Personally I would use a fuse rated at 150% of the full load current of the motor. Quite a lot kits are advertised with their peak current however, which makes something close to that a valid choice. (Of course it's also advisable to use the appropriate wiring...

    16P 18S 18650 pack

Personally I would use nickel strip to connect the blocks in series. Then I would use presspan/presspahn/isolation paper on the blocks for electrical isolation and a little bit extra rigidity. You can just glue that to your holders, by adding the appropriate glue on your holders. The last step...

Announcement - Soon to be released easybuild battery box

To be honest I'm totally not impressed by this project so far. Actually I thought all the unproven claims and buzz words were a bit annoying by times. First of all do "solderless" solutions for batteries already exist. So do we have spring loaded battery holders and battery clips. (A lot of...

Battery puffed due to faulty charger please help!

Actually he damaged one cell using his dremel. Then over a 90-minute period the fire propagated from one cell to the others, as shown in the video. A typical undamaged Panasonic cell will probably not burn nor explode if you short it.

    mailing puffed lipos?

Information about the regulations of the UK can be found here. To a large extent it's the same for entire Europe, and not just restricted to the UK or EU. You don't want to went through the effort of shipping dangerous goods just for the sake of returning a defective item.

    mailing puffed lipos?

In general there are restrictions on the amount of lithium in a pack as well on the amount of batteries and/or cells. Also carriers have packaging guidelines, which may include placing the cells in a box within a strong outer box and adding specific labels to your package. (How did the seller...

What sort of short circuit protection do I need?

I will copy/paste my post from a recent topic with pretty much the same question. Littelfuse has 58 VDC blade fuses with a 1A thru 40A rating. They also sell different blade fuse holders, for example stackable inline fuse holders with crimp connectors, to allow for easy replacement of fuses...

Is there a difference between a 7S and 8S charger?

There's probably a very logical reason for that. As the charger seems to be fine the battery pack is probably the culprit. Did you check the battery pack's voltage or check the voltage of the individual cells/groups, like pointed out by others?

No BMS - Do you use a fuse?

Littelfuse has 58 VDC blade fuses with a 1A thru 40A rating. They also sell different blade fuse holders, for example stackable inline fuse holders with crimp connectors, to allow for easy replacement of fuses. These fuses and holders are widely available through various sellers like Mouser...

    Charging trouble

Of course it is cut off, because it is fully charged. Given a 16S pack with a charge voltage of 3.6V per cell it's even slightly overcharged. (16*3.6=57,6) How much did the voltage drop that you think it should be charged again? Also it may not be advisable to start charging an almost fully...

New alleged Panasonic battery failed to deliver in road test

Although you don't tell where in the Netherlands they told you that, it's nothing but correct and something you might expect over here. Watt-hours are generally considered to be the appropriate unit for measuring energy capacity of a battery. Ampere-hours are not a unit of energy at all. The...

16s BMS with 16 balance wires question...

You already opened another topic in regards to the same issues, with the same pack. In that topic you also mentioned your charger is giving an output of 66.8V and 0A. Personally I would expect your BMS needs a minimum input voltage of 67V. If that's the case it's nothing but logical your pack...

16-18S BMS options? Where to buy?

You mean conformal coating? Or did they obscure the IC's?

48v 30ah battery Best cell config? BMS? Controller?

For a 48v battery you need a 13S config; 14S will make it a 52V pack. It is however something worthwhile to consider, as long as you bare in mind that the other parts of your setup should be compatible with that. (It will increase the capacity and likely decrease discharge rates and positively...
