How to brake using electric motor?

Hello, Can someone please let me know how or if it is possible to brake a small child's ride on car using the motor( dynamic braking?) rather that mechanical braking. I would be using a 36v 500w brush motor, a speed/motor controller and a foot accelerator pedal. I want to if I can avoid it using...

Running two 24v motors off one battery

Hello, I hope that this isn't a daft question. I want to build a ride on car for children that goes over rough ground as well as on the level. If I use two 24v motors (one for each back wheel) should I run these off a 24v battery or a 48v battery, I am assuming the first one. Also if I am...

How resilient are hub motors to wet and bumps?

I have put an 800w 48v hub motor onto a small pit bike for my son to ride around a field at the back of our house. Just a query about hub motors themselves; are they fairly resilient to the wet? I am not talking about driving through deep puddles but more about wet grass and muddy surfaces. I...

Can I just use one electric brake if two were supplied?

I have been looking at an ebike sensor switch to go with the existing hydraulic front brake set up that is on the bike. It means that I could keep that system in place but the electric sensor switch uses a magnet and sensor so that when the brake lever is pulled it switches off power. This means...

Can I just use one electric brake if two were supplied?

I have just received a new conversion kit (hub motor etc) and among the kit are two electric brakes that are both connected to the same connector . Overall four cables two per brake as per photo. The small motorbike I am putting the kit onto already has a fully functioning hydraulic front brake...

    Spacers for hub motor

Thanks again Voltron , really helpful advice. I guess if there is a thin/small step it would be better to use several of the "shaped" washers to make up the difference.

    Spacers for hub motor

I have bought a hub motor that I am waiting on that I know will need spacers (probably 10mm wide on each side) to fit properly between the swing arms on a small motorbike. When it comes to it will the spacers have to have a hole shaped to the flat end of the axle as in the first photo or can...

Making torque plates for 48v 800w brushless hub motor

I want to put a 48v 800w brushless hub motor onto the rear wheel of a small kids motorbike. The hub motor axle does not reach the full width of the swing arm (rear forks) and so I will need to space this out with aluminium or steel blocks fixed to the inside of the swing arm which the axle will...

Building box to contain four 12v 15ah AGM batteries.

Thanks Chalo. If I did go for a 48v lithium and to keep the cost down went for 10 ah would,in your opinion, this have enough "torque or whoomph" to drive a small motorbike with a 48v 800w brushless hub motor. Altogether the motorbike and rider etc would weigh no more than about 65-70kg. You are...

Building box to contain four 12v 15ah AGM batteries.

Thanks for all your answers and advice. There are a few reasons I want to use agm batteries over lithium . One being the expense, a good quality 48v 15ah lithium battery however efficient is very costly . Secondly the small motorbike they will power using a hub motor originally had an engine...

Building box to contain four 12v 15ah AGM batteries.

I am building a box to contain four 12v 15ah AMG batteries to power a small kids motorbike (48v altogether). Space is tight and I would ideally like to fit the batteries side by side flush up against each other with no movement. Should this be OK or is it absolutely necessary to have some...

converting small pit bike from petrol to electric.

That is really interesting Tig cross, thanks. I am certainly going to use a motor fixed to the frame but are you saying that when the throttle is let go off the motor should act as a sort of brake? I had an old beaten up electric single seater golf buggy once that had that function and braked...

converting small pit bike from petrol to electric.

Thanks for those suggestions and advice guys. The quad he has at the moment weighs about 145 lbs and has a 48v 800w motor running off a lead acid battery (4 x 12v). With him on it it takes off fairly fast and reaches about 30 kmh in a very short time and so I assume that a bike weighing less...

48v 13ah lithium battery powering small scramble bike

I am building a small electric "scramble " bike for my young son that altogether including him would weigh far less( about(180lbs) than an e-bike carrying an average weight adult ( about 220-240 lbs) . I want to power it with a lithium battery that is 48v 13ah which will be running a 48v 800w...

converting small pit bike from petrol to electric.

PS. Sorry meant to add. An ebike might weigh 50-60 lbs including motor etc and then another 160-180 lbs with rider (220-240 lbs all in). This project would weigh in at about 180 lbs altogether including my son and so relatively the motor and battery etc would not have to cope with any more...

converting small pit bike from petrol to electric.

Thanks for your replies and concerns, appreciated. I haven't intended on him racing around at 30mph anywhere, I am aware of the dangers of any sort of quad/ motorbike etc. He already has a 1000w 48v electric quad that travels at about 30 kmh and so has had plenty of experience of handling such...

converting small pit bike from petrol to electric.

Thanks for that but that doesn't really answer my question. He gets plenty of exercise playing rugby, football, cricket and athletics. He has asked me if I can put a scrambler together for him so he can have some fun on it. Really just need technical advice. Thanks

converting small pit bike from petrol to electric.

I want to convert the pit bike shown or similar to electric so that my 10 -11 year old son son can ride it without disturbing the neighbourhood. There are kids electric motorbikes out there for sale ready made but they are all too small for him and a bit "toyish" The pit bike is not very large...
