    Maximising the stealth bomber frame

Be wary of solder in high current connections. It can melt. I've seen battery cable connected to terminal lugs with solder pellets pull out when resistance somewhere caused them to heat up beyond the solder melting point. It's better to have a mechanical connections like hydraulic crimps...

    Molycell P42A vs Samsung 40T or ??

What do you have room for? The Molycell probably takes more space. I had room to try Headway on my last build, but at 17Ah, at 72V, not going to win range wars. But it did fit. The answer is likely depends on space available and desired range. LFP is probably less costly, and should...

    Another Bomber/Enduro Clone

You are incredibly observant! Yes it is. And I've been too lazy to turn it around. I only have bike sized tire irons, and it was really difficult to get the moped tires on the rims. By the time I realized I screwed up the bike was built. Outside of pouring rain, I'm banking it doesn't...

Finally, a couple pics of the whole bike:

    Another Bomber/Enduro Clone

Here is how I configured the adjustability of the Sabvoton controller with the cycle analyst: I labeled the picture, probably won't label the eBike. The first switch is the three speed switch on the Sabvoton. It basically limits top speed. The top position is 100%, which allows field...

    Another Bomber/Enduro Clone

This build is officially on the road! Not probably "done", but are they ever? First, a couple miscellaneous items: 1) Bench tested on an electronic load for capacity a 4S1P string of the Headway 40152S Cells used in this build at 8.5A, 17A and 25.5A. The cells are rated at 17Ah, charged to...

    Max regen battery current?

Sure. Apple FaceTime OK? Or Skype. I'm ok tomorrow morning. Have a wine delivery between 9-10, but that won't take but a couple minutes. I'm also up pretty early.

    Max regen battery current?

I would suggest no more than 16A. You will need to get it rideable, and try max regen and read the results on the CA3 after your sure it's calibrated to your dual motor, dual shunt configuration.

    DNM USD-8 Installation Questions

I agree. It also makes it much easier to remove the axle and thus the wheel for a flat. Kinda unlikely with my moped tires, they are almost stiff enough to ride home without a tube! I'm a bit shamed...I Read the manual and found the same thing you did. Although they didn't suggest a...

    DNM USD-8 Installation Questions

Works for me. But I think I prefer the adjustment I made on the uppers.

    DNM USD-8 Installation Questions

That's what I was wondering. The 45 minute test ride was OK.

    DNM USD-8 Installation Questions

I tried the preload from end to end. It didn't help.

    DNM USD-8 Installation Questions

It would be possible to force that to happen. But fully extended would only hit the stops on one side, leaving some unequal force on the axle.

    DNM USD-8 Installation Questions

I just installed a new DNM-8 fork on an Enduro frame. It replaced a Zoom. I had a very difficult time removing the 20mm hub axle. That turned out to be because the shocks extend to slightly different lengths. On the installation, I aligned things starting at the axle. The resulting...

    RadPowerBike RadCity Commuter

I didn't mean to imply 72V was better for hill climbing. Increasing the voltage only increases top speed. For hill climbing, if you maintain the same max speed uphill as a 48V system, the motor temp will be identical. But...who will do that? We all have heavy thumbs. So 72V is arguably...

    RadPowerBike RadCity Commuter

Alan, Thanks for the explanation. I'm on about the 5th reading so it sinks in. And another day I will have to go search out those threads on controllers. Bob

    RadPowerBike RadCity Commuter

I could be mistaken? But my understanding is phase voltage is always less than battery voltage until max RPM. There is some loss, but generally phase watts more or less equals battery watts. Assuming both statements are true, phase amps are almost always more than battery amps. Amps, or...

    RadPowerBike RadCity Commuter

Why do you suggest this? I admit my builds aren't Rad level cost driven solutions. But I have studied the simulations at Grin, and for 72V systems, I don't see the advantage looking at GMAC vs. 9C or QS. Especially with fins and statoraid or equal. Am I missing something?

    2WD install/set up advice appreciated.

Well I guessed high, but in part to account for what the model doesn't get with 4 wheels and tons of wind resistance.

    2WD install/set up advice appreciated.

Basically yes... But That's only 18.3 kph and is 632W (have to look at battery amps, not phase). Make sure weight includes bike, rider, trailer and trailer load. The simulator does not account for the extra trailer tires and their rolling resistance. Nor the extra wind resistance, better...

Probably should have used terms closer to the manual. Ramp up and down refers to these parameters that set maximum voltage rise and fall rates on the CA3.

The graphs and the charts shown are for a steady state at the selected speed with the throttle auto checkbox selected. The negative acceleration is small, and a rounding error in the calculation and should always be near zero. IF the throttle auto checkbox isn't selected, then the manual...

I'm retired, trying to help when I can is something I enjoy. Our travels were by boat, a two 1/2 year trip FL to Colombia via the Bahamas and eastern Caribbean, then Colombia back to FL via Central America. Our blog, a bit dated now, begins at...

    RadPowerBike RadCity Commuter

Actually the opposite is true and Alan is correct. Generally the phase current is higher than the battery current. The phase voltage is generally lower than battery voltage. Mr Tesla is in part famous because he didn't speak about what he didn't know.

    2WD install/set up advice appreciated.

This idea is for better matching of mismatched motor controllers. Not matched PRs. But in this scenario PAS would only work for one motor. Possibly a deal breaker. You could read pack voltage, but the CA3 would only see the current draw from one of the two motors. SOC is State of...
