I am still running the Hookworms sized 26x2.5. Still love them too.

    Radwagon 72v GMAC Phaserunner Build

Just today I was riding my Radwagon and pushed it hard. I gave it full throttle (1500 watts with my current settings) up a steep hill (riding up W Dravus on the west side Queen Anne) for about 5 minutes and then cruising at 30mph plus and I only saw 75 degrees centigrade on the temp sensor. Lots...

The regen is fantastic with the geared hub and variable control. I rarely need to use the actual brakes.

The GMAC does not inherently have torque sensing. The torque sensing will Come from a seperate torque sensing bottom bracket and your controller setup. Mine works well enough, but I’ve not ridden a bionix so I can’t compare. I suspect mine could be tuned to work even better than it does if I...

Thepronghorn - there you go, proving me right when I said I am not a battery expert! You are correct that I am charging at a 2C rate under maximum regen.

My 20 amps max regen is just under a 4C rate. (CORRECTION- it is actually a 2C rate. See posts further down). My Panasonic Sanyo GA cells have a charge constant of 1.675 amps. Thus a 3p battery configuration gives a 1C rate of just over 5 amps (5.025 to be exact). So 20 amp charge rate is 3.98C...

I believe my 20 amps max regen equates to a rate of a little over 3C (CORRECTION- it is actually a 2C rate. See posts below).

My understanding is many BMS do not regulate regen current. Thus when “charging” a battery via regen through the primary output wires, it bypasses the BMS charging charging circuit. That is the case on my battery. In researching what was safe amount of regen amperage, I was told because regen...

Ahicks - yes, I am of the opinion that not many people have experience with geared hubs without clutches that are therefore capable of regen braking. Almost all comments regarding regen braking are in regards to direct drive hubs. With the GMAC, I can use regen braking to bring me to a...

Bullfrog - Thanks. Its been a fun project and I'm loving riding the bike and how it performs now. I'm actually showing 16.6 WH/mile in my most recent charge cycle and 16.7 in the previous. On a separate note, I've been seeing some interesting statistics regarding my regen braking. I've read...

Best and Worst Ebike companies customer service

I have had very good service from Rad Power Bikes during my ownership of a Rad Rover and then a Rad Wagon. I am in Seattle so I can go into their shop in person. I can’t comment on their online service.

Today I fit some new cargo bags to my bike. I wanted something with greater capacity then what I had (original versions of the Rad Ballard bags). I looked around the internet and checkout out a lot of options and finally landed on the Cargo Hold bags from Tern cycles...

Amberwolf - My LED strips are visible from a full 90 degrees to the side, if not full brightness off axis like that. I might add some additional side/down lights as well per your suggestion. You cannot be too visible. I had the chance to ride my bike up Queen Anne hill in Seattle today, which...

Amberwolf - yes, it should be 17.7wh per mile. I corrected my previous post. The lights on the helmet are fully integrated into the structure and everything is smooth inside and out. I don’t think they impact safety in the event of a crash in any way. In regards to the led strips, great minds...

One other update, I was flipping through the cycle analyst today and checking the stats. I'm averaging 17.7 WH per mile so far. If I maintain that average and I run the battery between 80% and 20% states of charge, I should see just about 25 miles of range. If I run the battery 90% to 10%, I...

    Radwagon 72v GMAC Phaserunner Build

While I was away from home for the holidays, the final new component for the bike arrived: the new crank set with a 50T narrow wide tooth profile for better chain retention. The cranks are Litepro square taper with a 130mm bcd...

In my continuing effort to increase my visibility and safety on the bike, I asked for and received a Lumos Matrix helmet (https://lumoshelmet.co/pages/matrix) for Christmas. With the LED headlight, various rear light illumination options, and turn signals, I think this is another good addition...

Nightdiver - I looked at mid drives and test rode a bike with the tsdz2. In researching it I came to the conclusion it is not powerful or robust enough to deal with big loads or steep hills without overheating. I looked at the Bafang Max ultra, but it requires frame modification and fabrication...

Bullfrog - good info on the batteries a lot of which I didn't know. I'll try tracking AH or WH to see how that works for me. I've got low voltage cutoff set at 60v right now. As for the GMAC, I have the 10T winding. I wanted the higher torque for the loads and hills I deal with. I went for...

Bullfrog, I don't even have 50 miles on the new components yet, but I'm happy to give my initial impressions and will follow up with more later: A. The Grin GMAC motor. Initial impressions are build quality and design is excellent. The design of the torque arm seems well thought out and...

    Radwagon 72v GMAC Phaserunner Build

Bullfrog - I don't think overheating the GMAC will be a significant issue for me. I am always pedaling and I'm not usually pushing the motor anywhere near its max power. If I'm doing over 25 mph, its usually only for short stretches. An example of this is one stretch on the way to taking my...

The new Shimano Deore M6000 1x10 drivetrain is a huge upgrade over the stock Altus 3x7 components that came on the Radwagon. They always worked and were reliable, but the shift quality, tactile feel, and precision of the M6000 stuff is SO much better. I got an 11-46 cassette (which is...

Thanks! I installed the Sempu bottom bracket yesterday, which required a little fiddling. It turns out my bottom bracket shell actually measures 66mm across and not 68mm as it should. Beacuase of that I was not able to get the stock 68mm BB to seat with proper 40nm of torque without it...

New toys arrived this week! First brakes! From my time modifying high perfiormance cars, I believe it is critical that brakes are upgraded to match (or exceed) any increases in power and speed. The new brakes are Shimano MT-520 four piston calipers with matching MT-501 brake levers. These...
