    Alfine 8 OK?

I've got a spare Alfine 8 you can have for $100 if you want. Shipping would probably be in the region of 25 usd from here. About 3000km on the hub. Ray

Off the shelf system using Thun BB sensor?

Hi Guys, Anyone seen any systems available off the shelf that will work and/or are using the Thun BB Torque sensor? I have a need for something that will work out of the box, not looking to use a CA in this solution. For it to be legal here it needs to be a closed system that is not "easy"...

Shimano Alfine 8 failure with electric?

I ran a cyclone 500 through an alfine 8 for about a year. Didn't have any issues. Cyclone is long gone but I still have the hub!

    BMSBattery/ECityPower Experience

agree with most comments. I will never use these guys again. Ordered once and that was enough. Received the wrong motor and when I asked for a swap out they asked if I could just sell it on to a friend and re-order a new one. pffft.

    Friction RC Commuter Build

Hi Adrian, Well, I finally am getting back up to speed health wise and have managed to pickup a watt reader from a local RC shop and other bits and bobs from hobbycity. I just quickly recorded this video with the readings of the kit at 10/20/30km and full out, then under load via disc...

    Hidden Power roller drive

Interesting, I can say that I do know my HP motor pushes around 250lbs all the time  so 38 aint that much really  I wonder why he is selling it...

    Shake, rattle and roll.....

Na, not to much damage here in Tokyo. Mostly just things thrown all over the place. Mind you there was a lot of liquidification damage down around Disney and such. Sidewalks, pipes and trees sticking each/every way if you know what I mean. The aftershocks are getting a little creepy to be...

    Shake, rattle and roll.....

I just godda vent. The March 11th quake was bad enough and I never care to experience something like that again in this lifetime. But, even worse these flipping aftershocks are doing my head in. All the more reason to keep my ebike in tip top running shape so I've got a way home when...

    Friction RC Commuter Build

Hey Adrian, Just a small update. I've taken this thing out on a few wet roads over the past 2 weeks and as I expected performance leaves a lot to be desired. Thankfully, I didn't purchase it with the expectation I would be using it in the rain (happy to pedal in that case) . But, the times...

    Friction RC Commuter Build

Well, things are slow but I've now hacked the fenders to fit along with the friction motor. Adrian, I've always been interested in grabbing a CA but that turnigy may just do the deal at a fraction of the cost. You reckon I can just run that inline with traxxas adaptors between the...

    Friction RC Commuter Build

Hey Adrian, Sorry for the slow feedback in this thread. The bike has been performing great, for my needs and style of riding. I've been slow to post stuff in here as I'm off the bike for at least a month while I go back into hospital for some surgery. Nothing serious just getting older...

    Friction RC Commuter Build

@jbond, here is a quick recording of a close up while adding some load to the motor via the disc brakes. You can see how the motor turns with the pulley enclosure. 5rqun559ZKU

    Friction RC Commuter Build

The one way clutch bearing and roller are held on with a snap ring. Not sure what that nut is doing there in the diagram. At least that is how my version is. The belt casing is attached to the motor and the entire motor will rotate within the mount as one combined unit.

The motor has about a 35mm diameter. Add another 3 or 4mm once you put the heatsink on.

    Friction RC Commuter Build

Sure, will get them up over the weekend. Been swamped at work preparing for holidays  My experience so far with this kit has been positive. It sure does make a difference when you dont have to fight against a hub motor and lug around a 9kg battery, it's great having my bike back to...

    Friction RC Commuter Build

Well, took my first ride in this morning. Overall I am happy with the power/performance of the kit. It is of course very noticeable coming from a 36v 500w hub motor, but, I think it is what it says on the box. An assist. It pretty much tops out at about 30 km/h which is find for the hills...

    Friction RC Commuter Build

@Adrian, no, not spring loaded to return to nil. That would be a good option I agree. There should be a PAS option soon, I am hoping to grab that controller when available. I have to agree on the bearing. I think this is supposed to be engaged at all times. I will knock up a connector so I...

The throttle is a roller dial. Basically mount it under your bar and roll if with your index finger. First one I've come across that I can use easily on the drop bars. @jbond, there is no end stop for when its off. Basically there is a spring that wraps around the end of the motor to the...

    Friction RC Commuter Build

Well, I've had some time today to get the kit installed onto my commuter. My initial impressions of the system are quite favorable. Even with the controller, battery and motor on the frame it does not stick out too much. Eventually I'll be moving everything into a touring bag to make...

    Friction RC Commuter Build

The Hidden Power drive showed up today. It looks great, compact, well fabricated. Going to have to get it on this weekend and try it out. Here is a teaser pic, at work so I can't spend to much time playing with ebike parts

    Friction RC Commuter Build

Spot on Adrian, This was the only caveat to the hidden power setup. There is no way I'm gonna slice up my honjos  . I was going to take my winter fenders from my 2nd bike and cut'em in half. But these seem a far better solution. I had also thought of mounting the hidden thing...
