    Hill Climbing Assistance

When charging - yes, such as in ammo boxes or fire-resistant enclosures, and/or at "away" locations. While riding, not that I recall. Using only known/proven cell suppliers & manufacturers, combined with time-tested construction practices hopefully reduces pack fire risk. Proper handling...

    Hill Climbing Assistance

I don't think this question is answerable - there's hesitation for adding motors on carbon forks/frames, I believe, mainly related to concerns about the abrupt failure mode of the material. But who knows how your fork is engineered for increased stresses, what with the low rider mounts and the...

    Hill Climbing Assistance

Thank you for the build comment - no S.O. or dependants in my case ... Just me, my shadow, and an e-bike collection. Trying to bolt a 30T ring onto most quiet & non-external chain reduction add-on mid drives would require a special spider, and you'd end up with a horrific chain line - at least...

    Hill Climbing Assistance

My rear hub motored bike (here) has a Nine Continent RH212 rear hub motor and the same (I think) microSHIFT super-short 9-speed drivetrain you have/like. I suspect all of the HG splined-equipped hub motors can accommodate it - 11/12-speed cassettes may be hit or miss. I've also got a mid-motor...

Increase rotor size to 220mm on 160mm posts

The front looks rotor/caliper pad alignment reasonable to me, not knowing the width of the pad compared to the corresponding rotor sweep area. Not so on the back, where my first guess would be the caliper is spaced too high (edit: too far out radially). I use a bright flashlight when setting up...

Increase rotor size to 220mm on 160mm posts

Hi @Lectriceye, is the bike in question a dual-motor (originally a geared hub factory bike, now with added-on BBSHD) aluminum-framed fat bike, about 300 lbs rolling weight, and perhaps with a suspension fork? If so, you may want to consider increasing it to 203mm (at most), using the standard...

    Bafang Ultra 3 speed nexus

Nice find! On covering up the downtube logo, beside black paint there's wide black electrical/craft/gaffers/duct tape available. My initial reaction to the child seat was the same as @Az's. I'd at least add some wheel/foot protection (triangle-shaped plastic sheet seems common), and a clamp-on...

    I Bought a Talaria Sting R MX4...

@skeetab5780, I applaud you for showing and teaching your daughter tool skills - a valuable life lesson I fear many never receive. Knowing the various fastener types, relative tightness, etc., and having dirty, sometimes scarred, self-reliant hands are all good.

Failure rate (points) for Grin's all-axle rear hub motor, or, choosing a hub motor

@ebike4healthandfitness, do you mean something similar to (now defunct) Kindernay's IGH cage, only supersized?

Failure rate (points) for Grin's all-axle rear hub motor, or, choosing a hub motor

I'm considering converting a mid-drive bike I have to rear hub motor drive, and I can go 135mm O.L.D. bolt/QR or 148mm x 12mm thru-axle. The former would give me more motor vendor options, while the latter path would have to be via Grin. The wheel size would preferably be 650B/27.5", or 26" if...

Wheel Building ... This just looks Wrong

While not as even, effective, or easy as using a special spoke (de)stressing press (Velocity Wheels and DT examples), I use my fingers, as this guy does - on the adjacent pairs and across the hub pairs. I also use an inexpensive tensiometer but am not skilled enough to know the "correct" tension...

Shimano Alfine SG-S700 11 speed short ride and information

Well, good luck with solving, measuring, and metal carving. If nothing else, it'll be unique. But, the quote, "that way madness lies" comes to my mind. If you're interested in bicycle drivetrain experimentation, IMO that's not the frameset to play on.

Shimano Alfine SG-S700 11 speed short ride and information

Kindernay going bust makes me wonder if having an OEM contract (or multiple) is necessary for survival. An OEM like Riese & Müller, for example.

Shimano Alfine SG-S700 11 speed short ride and information

@technotony007, have you considered the 3X3 Nine hub, which is available 148mm thru axle (but not 28 spoke drilling)? Similarly, either of the Kindernay hubs? These are true thru-axle hubs, unlike the Enviolo or the Rohloff which use bolts and spacer adapters, AFAIK.

Ride1Up 700 Series: An upgrade journey

Thanks for all of the details, @slaphappygamer. "Throttle on the right" is how I rig my bar controls layout to free up my left arm, though I'm concerned that car drivers don't recognize that I'm hand-signaling instead of waving.

    Cargo Cult

@wturber / @99t4 what are/do you using for an Xtracycle kickstand? Is it a Pletcher-ish single leg, or similar? My cargo bike, being a regular wheelbase / basketed short fork conversion, tends to be a bit tippy. I currently have a Copenhagen Dual Leg Kickstand, but the stand's foot stance may...

Vaguely related to this very nice build is another, using the relatively inexpensive ~$630 Mongoose Envoy as a starting point. An owner's detailed write-up series is here.

    Cargo Cult

You're not, by any means, being cowardly with your decision. It's an all too common circumstance to have dangerous bicycle riding conditions. I get asked about e-biking by the unaware but potentially interested. I must bring up the danger caveat first and foremost - especially to interested...

How to Verify UL Certified Lithium Battery

@LewTwo, I think you have a valid, and not stupid question. For curiosity, I tried to validate MH60696 (Bosch) online and failed. It's not clear to me how, as a consumer, where to accomplish this.

Thanks for the update @TricycleMichael - it helps a lot.

Would you pay $80 for a torque arm?

Hi @wturber - I think the torque arm shown in the first picture is something other than the OP's product idea - I think it's a NLA product from/of ampedbikes.com, and maybe something the OP has ideas of copying.

Would you pay $80 for a torque arm?

Back to @scianiac's post, and his line, "It's not a market that values premium products, it's a value market." I suspect the vast majority of hub motor conversions start by using the eBay/Amazon/Alibaba sub-$200 kits, by peeps that just want cheap transportation and/or fun - often they're not...

BBS-FW: Open Source Firmware for BBSHD/BBS02 Controller

Daniel states in the notes, "This firmware is compatible with all displays that works with the original Bafang firmware" (UART, not CAN bus displays), and some display-related code tweaks are mentioned in the release notes. Note that while the Eggrider will display the data feed from the...
